My Sincere Apologies

Last night's PAC meeting was attended by LSC member Rick Starbard and candidate Delores (I'm not typing out her last name because she contributes to this blog ll he ime and I am too lazy). The cynical thing is to remind everybody that it is election time and it is. But let me ask you what other LSC mmbers or candidates wee there? SALTED!

Now some people have accused me of being biased toward certain people. To those people I say, "So what, if you don't like it, get your own blog". I try to be 100% slanted toward the kids and that means favoring those people, programs, and schools that line up with my objectives. SORRY (not really)

  1. It is wonderful and necessary to have school committee representation at meetings of parents/families and groups in Lynn. Last night I know of a Neighbor to Neighbor meeting also that had Maria Carrasco in attendance. I know John Ford attends a lot of city meetings also.

I am more questioning that no member of the School Department attends (although I don't know them so maybe they are there) but there are at least 50 school department employees making more than $85k a year - they are the ones that implement and apply for grants for the city and manage the programs and are responsible in the end for its success or failure. In the end any faults or problems will need to be corrected by them. Many on this site seem to think it is the role of the School Committee (and councilors) to run the schools and the city. No one asks where the Mayor or Superintendent was.

It is the role of the School Committee to support the Superintendent (or replace if don't approve). The School Committee reviews, recommends, and advises what the Superintendent submits to them. There is a grant writer and administrators on staff submitting proposals and the superintendent oversees how money is actually distributed. School Committee can establish goals and offer concerns but do not carry out and probably don't get to see most of the actual grant proposals (unless go in and ask to view).

While it is great to see this group focusing on the needs of the special needs students in Lynn, there are some 14k students and 28 public schools.

  2. I wish this blog had a "like" button because I'd like "(or replace if don't approve)". Now we are getting somewhere!

Mary you make so many great points.
You should take over the writings here!
This blog while private and the author has the right to exercise their right to free speech is hurting the cause. I also would wonder about the creditability Delores or Rick who comment on here. Most taxpayers in Lynn who vote would be turned off by the fact that they are giving so much credence to some of the National Enquirer material posted here.
Then again perhaps they want to run an Obama type election and get as many "ghetto" votes as they can from the society of people who is dependent on all the social programs others want to cut???
    Food for thought.....

  4. Almost voting time- so those who dependent on social programs (including the homeless, disabled, elderly and veterans) are "ghetto" people whose voices should not be heard through the electoral process? That is the most ridiculous statment I have ever heard.

  5. Almost voting time!!
First of all..if you were truly concerned about the cnadidates and their issues, you would not be ANON...Secondly, unless you have met both candidates and have spoken to them about your concerns then you have NO right to judge them...As for your comment about "ghetto and National Enq"....it sounds like you are the only one who reads that crap and should remain ANON...so that the "ghetto" people of Lynn do not know who you are....someone sounds very scared to me.....vote vote vote...DiFillipo & Starbard...all the more!!!!

  6. Mary....you sound like you are a principal or administrator in LPS....whatever....
    MARIA & JOHN...who are they????
MAria attends what her "white union" people tell her to attend and John attends whatever his boss "steve Walsh tells him tooo...get the picture now....they are NOT in it for our children....So get over yourself!
Do you have a specia lneeds child or do you need services for your child???? Then do us a favor and keep your comments to yourself...
Not sure what Neighbor to Neighbor is and what they even do to help our schools...sounds like a "cult" of people just hanging....whatever...

  7. Mary, we are lucky to have someone as knowledgeable as you to contribute to this discussion. Do you think you could define the concept of LEADERSHIP for me?

  8. Almost Voting Time, once again you are right. This blog is kind of private to the extent it is run by me. Since that is an agreed upon fact, please let me rind you that I could remove your comments at any time. Istead I choose to leave them up in order to show how truly ignorant you are.

  9. Mary, I forgot to point out to you that according to the statistics given out last night nearly 20% of Lynn students receive some sort of services from the Special Ed. Department. Like your biggest fan, Almost Voting Time, said "Food for thought".

  10. Don't forget Stanley that they had no numbers on children receiving services under 504. That could add many more names to the list. I believe that Jessica McLaughlin said Dennis Thompson is the 504 coordinator. Let call Dennis and get some more numbers!

  11. Funny you should remind me of that Melissa. Wasn't Dennis Thompson responsible for drafting LPS's Bullying Prevention Plan as well?

  12. Yes, yes he is. I've put in a call and left a message. This should be interesting.

  13. Love the "white comments". I take it you are a minority so your able to make them? What a shame that you help people reaffirm stereotypes they have of minorities. You hurt yourself. That an old song and dance. Have a look around Lynn most of the trash is white.
How is that any different than Mary saying the nonretards need a chance at an education too.
FYI if Mary is who I think she is she is a damn nice giving community member AND most likely a tax payer paying for your Section 8 rented apartment and food stamps!

  14. Mary is nice, what color is ignorance ad under what section do we find it?

Did you see the item the other day with Starard and Spirtio. I guess I was right after all (miss mary whatever your name is). Read it for your self. They look pretty cozy to me.
Lets get them out. Moving on.
I guess you bring the "ghetto out of me" after all.

  18. Dennis Thompson just put his house on the market (judge road). Must be getting ready to RUN FOR THE BORDER. What will happen to all of the 504 children and families?
Stanley, check that one out! Please!

  19. This is why I love this blog - I am getting a big kick out of knowing that the Lynn community is WATCHing LPS employees and commenting on their actions. I'm reminded of a neighborhood watch organization tracking unsavory neighbors.

  20. Melissa, comments like that are why you are my new BFF.

  21. melissa I have to say that I love this blog too. but I wish you and stanley would stop pushing david ellis. Sorry but you lose points with me and others for that. He is NUTS. sorry but it is the truth. all about him not our kids.
you both sound very smart but not when you are pushing him to be your mentor. be your own mentors, you are doing a good job.
also, think about who you are pushing on facebook. many sped parents are getting angry.
    just letting you know.

  22. Anon. 127, I am NOT pushing Dave Ellis. I have had limited dealings with him and don't feel I could offer my support just yet.

  23. Hello again Concerned Special Ed Parents.

Are we friends on facebook? Because my facebook account is private. If you are referring to me receiving an invitation from Rick Starbard and then passing it along to my twenty odd facebook friends who live in Lynn - then I'm guilty. If we are friends on facebook and you don't want an invitation sent to you - please message me.

I'm not trying to push Dave Ellis. Dave won't run. I'm musing over what I consider good qualities. And considering the number of politicians Dave has mentored, managed, etc. there are a lot of people in Lynn who respect his opinion and heed his advise. And I wouldn't go around printing that he's "NUTS". I'm pretty sure that's liable. I learned that from Dave, by the way.
