HIGHLANDS HI-JINX?

WHERE WAS OUR SUPERINTENDENT OR ANY OF THE ADMINISTRATION?

MUSIC FROM AL NESSER AT FORD SCHOOL

COMMUNITY SCHOOL, COMMUNITY PROJECT

PROPOSED COOK STREET GARDEN PLAYGROUND

Out of committed community residents along with their school, their community school a bold new proposal born out of a partnership between residents and government has been brought forth to take control of a beautiful parcel of land that has been neglected too long.

RUNNING ON THE CHEAP

Gallo's generosity has cracked my top ten.
After all, who needs funds to win?

Since he doesn't need you to finance his campaign,
school committee politics will never be the same.

Since education is not a business to run,
he'll have no need for your capital. Won't this be fun?

Despite the fact the NEW LYNN COALITION did not support mine and other parents demands for the best education possible for our kids, I am supporting their event. It is the right thing to do for our community, our schools.

WHO YOU GONNA CALL?

The current CITY COUNCIL may not care about the state of our schools but at least former candidates CLAY WALSH and CEF ROSA were in the audience to listen to concerns. Remember next time you vote.

SHINE A LITTLE LIGHT ON ME

Annual event showcases positive impact of youth on Lynn community

Any event that focuses the spotlight on our youth and the positive things they do brightens the environment for the whole school. Plus when there is a free meal involved how can you go wrong?

BUT.....,

the spotlight was more like a penlight. Out of 66 students given credit, only one was singled out. Funny though there was plenty of room in the article to shine the light on politicians and people who testified on behalf of DR> LATHAM and against parent's concerns.

There was JOHN HOFFMAN who put himself out there as a witness to LATHAM'S many achievements regarding student culture. JOHN you have enormous influence running LETV, doesn't it bother you that you got more coverage than the students you claim to be covering.

Don't forget Representative WALSH, son of DEBRA WALSH (who testified on CATHE'S behalf) and employer of"JOHN THE RIPPER". He NEVER came to listen to the concerns of parents, who also happen to be some of his constituents and who do VOTE.

SENATOR MCGEE and REPRESENTATIVE BOB FENNELL were evidently present to pick up a good meal and get their name in the paper. Annual event showcases positive impact of youth on Lynn community Neither were present to listen to parent's concerns about our failing district.

GROWING CONCERNS AT SCHOOL DESPITE HEARING

lynnhappens.com

LATHAM AND ITEM AN ITEM DESPITE "JOHN THE RIPPER"

I would like to applaud the LYNN ITEM for lining up in expressing support for DR. LATHAM now that she has withstood the unfair criticism she was subjected to by us parents who demanded accountability and wanted the best for our kids. The simple fact that they could turn the other cheek so quickly when JOHN "THE RIPPER" FORD had just lambasted them at the PUBLIC HEARING for always portraying LPS in a negative light exemplifies the art of forgiveness or maybe just forgetfulness.

THE RIPPER pointer out that that a Boston TV station scooped them by a week highlighting the story on THE BRICKETT BABES going to DISNEY as winners of a national contest. Funny though  RIP didn't give me any credit when I played up the story before they even won the contest. I guess at his age that part of his brain was IDLING.

BEAUTY BEGINNING TO BLOOM

Lynn Commons Flower Bed Project

DUSTY DOWN WITH THE PARENTS

While I can not vouch for his specific feelings were on the issues surrounding our PUBLIC HEARING, I do have a feeling what they are from talking with him. I'll leave them to him to express personally.

What I WILL SAY is that he was there at least apprising himself of the concerns of parents. Should he be elected while he won't deal directly with the classroom, the decisions he will have to make will have  grave impacts on education.

It was a relatively big crowd and I was preoccupied so I didn't really pay attention. Were any other of the candidates for the 10th Essex District for State Representative there. Education requires that you show up.

COUNCIL ON RECORD, FINALLY

COUNCIL COMES THROUGH FOR CATHE

I want to thank the LYNN CITY COUNCIL for their 11th hour unanimous support for DR. LATHAM. I'm glad to see them finally take a stand for the children of LYNN. I understand that they were too busy over a month ago to listen to, not endorse my efforts to launch a petition drive. I even sent TERRY YOUNG a LETTER. I mean they had to fight for those union jobs in BOSTON.

Then they were preoccupied pronouncing their preference for UNION PERSONAL CARE ATTENDANT jobs statewide.Important business, just not LYNN'S business.

If I knew they were going to read letters into the record, I would have asked my MOM to write one. I figure she knows as much about how education stands in LYNN as COUNCILMAN CYR.

FORD FRIENDLY

Boston has its strangler,
The LSC has "JOHN THE RIPPER"

Parents questions raise his anger.
Wonders why we don't support her.

Talking about the slashing of throats,
When it comes to parental involvement, he's missing all boats.

I FOUND HONG

He must have been in hiding when that unanimous vote was taken by LYNN CITY COUNCIL to have a letter of endorsement read into the record at our PUBLIC HEARING. After all the work I did promoting his candidacy I am a little disappointed he didn't say, "Hey wait a minute, let's get the best candidate here!".

BUT....,

this is politics and I'm over it. My job now is to insure that DR. LATHAM lives up to the confidence placed in her by all our elected officials. And if poverty and Probate Court doesn't get the best of me, I will be there every step of the way making sure she lives up their belief. Along the way those same politicians will have to bare the burden of my inspection.

POLISHED DENTAL PUTS OUT

The same POLISHED DENTAL that just won a contract to provide services in LPS MIDDLE SCHOOLS sat up a little booth at today's HEATH FAIR at the YMCA. ELLEN GOULD of POLISHED attempted to clean out my ears in between cleaning some little incisors.

This former FORSYTHE employee had a different take on the total tally of services supplied. I am awaiting an e mailed statement with all the pertinent particulars.

CANINE DEMONSTRATION

The ESSEX COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT provided some young kids at today's HEALTH FAIR at the YMCA a demonstration of how dogs are used in police work. These dogs are often used to sniff out drugs and other contraband in our schools.

Lately they haven't found anything in our schools save that one time in MARSHALL.

LT. TURNER TALKS ON FIRE

Young kids today learned FIRE SAFETY today at the YMCA HEALTH FAIR. Considering all the fires latelt including the apartment fire on GREEN STREET where LPS employees claimed to be of assistance to displaced families, the timing could have not been better.

OFFICER RYAN DULONG DELIVERS

LYNN POLICE were present today at the YMCA HEALTH FAIR to point out staying safe is a great way to practice HEALTHY LIVING.

A LITTLE FAMILY TREE CLIMBING

Let's take a quick look at some of the lineage of some of the key players WED. night. There was Debbie Walsh, head of LYNN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER and mother of REPRESENTATIVE STEVE WALSH (rumored to be after JUDY'S job) who spoke glowingly about DR. LATHAM. It is a good thing that DR. LATHAM has a relationship here.

I mentioned in a previous post how the good DOCTOR scored a good photo op by just happening to have a principal's meeting at the new LCH building during the GRAND OPENING. Getting your picture in the paper is a goo thing. I should know.

BUT...,

I do have a little problem with the problem with the fact that DEBBIE'S son STEVE employ's LSC member JOHN FORD who came to the PUBLIC HEARING not to listen or learn but with a prepared statement attacking not only the democratic process that initiated the hearing but also using graphic language to describe the actions of any LSC MEMBER who might have been in favor of wanting the best for out students.

QUID QUO PRO, PERHAPS?

Then there was RICH COWDELL, brother of JIM COWDELL, Economic Development Guy in LYNN. RICK is about to be to be the head of a new 1100 person new school where LYNN is going to have to pay 68 million dollars for. Now we only are responsible for 20% of the total cost. So that means the state is paying four times what we are. You do the math, it hurts my head.

DR. LATHAM'S tough negotiating skills that I believe COUNCILMAN CYR spoke of specifically of regarding this endeavor only got us an additional capacity of 100 students. Even with the SMALL addition, most projections present an immediate overcrowding problem.

AND....

there was KIMBERLEE POWERS, fresh off her promotion to EXECUTIVE DIRECTOT OF CURRICULUM who is I guess a COUSIN of the good DOCTOR. She would probably be available for a transfusion if the infusion of data weakens our state standing. That's the advantage of keeping it in the family.

NAVIGATOR SKIPPER POSES FOR PICTURE

My Son and Richie Hebner

A preseason party for the Northshore Navigators served as a kick-off to what looks to be a great year for the city of Lynn in sports. After state titles in both football and soccer at LVTI and a state title in basketball for St. Mary's, the city is prepared for a continuation of success in area sports.

RICK STARBARD and MARIA CARRASCO were present representing LPS.  Athletics are very important for the overall development of the total student.

Talking to a retired LPS employee I heard an interesting idea for improving attendance and lowering the dropout rate. His thinking was that we shouldn't prevent students from playing sports as long as they pass Math and English. Sports is sometimes the magnet that keeps some kids coming to school and if we are preventing them from playing we often lose them.

The loss can lead to a life on entitlements that can take generations to break the cycle. Plus the schools lose out on all kinds of federal monies due to lower attendance and lower graduation rates. I really don't know if the numbers or laws would back up theses claims but it is an interesting concept.

FORD FREAKS

JOHN FORD'S violent verbiage referring to throat slashing of throats demonstrated a paramount lack of professionalism. Such rhetoric borders on criminal and only demonstrates his lack of objectivity when it comes to assessing the performance of our educational system.

Doesn't he realize that he will have to work with the same school committee members he such viciously verbally attacked and blamed for PROMOTING this lesson in the exercise in a free government. I can assure you they all only knew of our efforts after the fact. What initiated my efforts was an anonymous comment on one of my posts and the foundations of LPS would shake if my guess on that person's identity were correct. Alas, I;ll never tell and it is only a guess anyway.

I don't know why FORD didn't blame ME. Maybe he is afraid to pick on a cripple or maybe it's just a fear of iambic pentameter.

FIGHTING TO LOSE

Lynn school board votes against posting super’s position

ANOTHER VICTORY! So they didn't actually vote to post the position, I got the MAYOR and several other people to PRONOUNCE my name right. My wife of seven years (the current one) doesn't even say it right half the time.

Now if we can just get the same level for other parents out there. You know teachers are parents too as was proclaimed by some of the supporters of not posting the position. It was a little confusing because their support seemed to be mostly for the value of a PUBLIC education and only minimally about anything the current superintendent did.

Arguing that you don't want the best is an argument you lose even if you win.

GALLO TO GIVE BACK DONATIONS

Since declaring "Education is not a business", surely attorney Gallo will return all of the monies he's collected so far in his ongoing campaign to the heights of political patronage. Even though CHARLIE had the first fundraiser before there were any cob webs on the ballot boxes, this sudden epiphany is clearly a signal that he no longer needs any money to conduct his campaign and plans to run on his merits.

Maybe he will follow my example since even though my campaign FAILED (Ouch, it hurts to say that), I raised the level of concern for education, caused the first ever petition-driven public hearing, and all with NO BUDGET!

WE WON. WE WON

Okay they didn't vote to post the position but we ere heard. Never before have our elected school committee officials been hold so accountable, the superintendent been under scrutiny. Going forward DR. LATHAM will be a better superintendent or we will have another hearing.

Remember the strategy of arguing with the referee is not to change the current call but to get better calls in the future.

DID YOU REALLY EXPECT ME NOT TO SNATCH VICTORY FROM THE JAWS OF DEFEAT!

For service above and beyond the call of duty and at GREAT DANGER to her personal well-being AREDA HEREFORD will be awarded the DISTINGUISHED ORDER OF THE WATCH. AREDA braved the elements and forayed deep into enemy territory to distribute fliers notifying parents of tonight's PUBLIC HEARING despite and against organized resistance. The children of LYNN  will be forever in her debt!

PROOF OF PRIORITIES

We, the citizens of LYNN are expected to provide 108 million dollars a year to run the schools and in little more than a year we will be asked to pony up 68 million more to pay for our share for building the new MARSHALL. Doesn't it make sense to have the best person we can get to run the system responsible for those expenditures.

I hope our turnout won't be too hurt by the political fundraisers going on tonight. I don't know. We aren't going to have free food and a cash bar.

LEADERSHIP COMES IN ALL AGES

Okay, Okay, I'll write something kind of upbeat about the the STUDENT GOVERNMENT SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Evidently it may not always be apparent that the "S" emblazoned on my chest stands for SATIRE.

Take the Acting MAYOR DEAN ALBERT, please  (Hey if he could get by with a little comedy last night, why can't I get by with a little HENNY YOUNGMAN stick).

Seriously, if people didn't pay attention to what was said between the jokes they would have missed an example of what constitutes a thoughtful analysis. It was the realization that both sides of an argument each can have its individual merit. At the end of the deliberation though a decision must be made, a final resolution and it was.

ILLEGAL AGENDA?

http://www.lynnschools.org/documents/district/school_committee/2012_notices/SC%204-24%20&%2026-2012%20Stud%20Gov%20Day%20&%20Pub%20Hrg.pdf

The CHARTER clearly states that FINAL ACTION must be taken after the hearing. Funny, I see no place for ACTION on this AGENDA. What does that say?

DON'T YOU SEE, IT'S NOT JUST ME

Looks like the momentum for change is building, a change in the way we do things

STUDENTS SLIGHTED

Today was STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY and I was sharpening up my pencils and preparing some of these young politicos for a taste of the venom from the ink of my pen. Cackles of laughter provided my melody of anticipation.

Then I got an icy stare from LOIS STARBARD warning me to be nice when referring to her daughter STEFANIE who was serving as a student representative to the SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Swallowing hard I assured MAMA BEAR STARBARD that I'd be nice.

I mean she's doing that WEIGHT WATCHER thing and beginning to get closer to her fighting weight and well I've got a cane and my balance ain't none too good. I got too many women mad at me anyway.

SO.....,

I'm going to write a hard hitting expose about how bowls of candy were not put on the tables for the students to enjoy throughout the meeting and consequently I never got to fill my pockets with the leftovers.

LITTLE BLUE PILLS DON'T BOUNCE

I got all excited for a moment. I sent a couple of test e mails to a couple of LPS addresses and I didn't get nothing back. Well not immediately. In the interim I started planning all those Christmas cards I had planned to send, not to mention checking up on the progress of my kids.

Alas, my joy was short-lived. After a few minutes I got notice from some electronic postmaster that my mail was undeliverable. You would think after I warned them at the last meeting that they might be putting over $6 MILLION dollars of TITLE 1 money in JEOPARDY that would have got their attention but NOOOOOO.

Well I've been busy with this HEARING thing and lots of other DRAMA in my crazy life, so I haven't started proceedings YET but I will soon.

You know I was wondering. Way back, probably more than a year ago my FACEBOOK account was hacked and VIAGRA ads were sent out to everyone in my address book. DR. LATHAM even told me about it. Funny though, she didn't block my address then. I guess that didn't rise to the level of concern. What's that all about?

YOU DON'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

I have learned something new. Not just me, it seems that many of our teachers have learned something new too. Actually what I learned is about our kids learning and some teacher's teaching

The subject of my new knowledge is the object of some of the teaching. I strenuously object to the objective of the practice of subjecting our kids to teachers on a REGULAR basis who are not certified in the subjects they are teaching. Now I'm not talking about RANDOM SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS. I understand this is happening on a REGULAR basis in a school in LPS. All because of a lack of mastery of the master schedule.

Not only does this mean you are getting shortchanged for the teachers you pay for but our kids are getting an inferior education. Who do we blame? The TEACHERS-hardly. They are just doing what they are told by the people who sign their paychecks. We need to hold accountable the taskmasters who assign the tasks.

OUR STUDENT'S GOVERNMENT

Today's LSC meeting is unique and kind of special. No it's not just because it's on Tuesday, but because it is also STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY our young kids will have an opportunity to observe their government on the precipice of a historic action by the citizen-parents of this school district. Never before in the history of LYNN have the parents rose up to demand such accountability of their governing school body.

Do I think the powers that be will acknowledge this occasion tonight? Doubtful, probably not a chance. Still there will be a PUBLIC HEARING Thursday night at 6 pm in the "Lions's Den" at LVTI. Unlike in ancient Roman history, no blood will be spilled by hungry animals. This time the opposite will happen. The SPECTATORS will try to stop the bleeding from the wounds of our educational system.

Soon the students will learn about the attempts at first-aid to the curriculum and will witness their school committee's actions. Most will become parents themselves one day but before that they will VOTE.

CAPANO CURIOUSLY UNCLEAR ABOUT CLEARNESS

Can anyone explain to me how THE PRIMADONNA OF PROCESS, PATTI can claim to be a proponent of transperancy and yet voted to not even allow the FULL LSC COMMITTEE to to debate whether or not to post the SUPERINTENDENT'S position in order that the full committee could discuss it in front of the larger crowd for the regular meeting and oh, I believe the reporter from the ITEM.

Maybe PATTI made a mistake (like I have at least 3 times) in her word choice. Maybe instead of transparent she meant TRANSLUCENT. Then while you can see something but it is clearly unclear.

CLEO IS DATA DRIVING AGAIN, WATCH OUT DR. LATHAM

There is ample evidence out there about the benefits of early education. When you look at the minuscule number of children LPS serves, serious questions arise about the capability of our leadership and the direction she has chosen to take our failing district.

I just have a question or two. Why hasn't the administration moved out of their air conditioned building at 90 COMMERCIAL STREET and into the building at BENNETT STREET where they could merge with the SPED offices from BROAD STREET freeing up that building for use as a dedicated pre-school? I mean I think a study has been done and paid for.

I mean between TITLE 1 money and a little administrative reorganization and belt tightening from all those 100 K salaries, a SUPERINTENDENT with a little vision could make this happen. Currently we can't see out of the tunnel.

WHERE WILL YOU BE ON WHAT WILL BE A DEFINING MOMENT IN THE HISTORY OF EDUCATION IN LYNN?

On the night of APRIL 26, 2012 at 6 pm in the "Tiger's Den" at LVTI at 90 COMMERCIAL STREET a PUBLIC HEARING will be held on the decision NOT to post the SUPERINTENDENT'S position. With failing schools, the lacking of supplies but a GROWING ADMINISTRATION parents have banded together to voice their opinions and demand accountability from their SCHOOL COMMITTEE members.

Whether a parent, grandparent, or spinster, fifty cents of every tax dollar you pay to the CITY of LYNN is spent on EDUCATION and they are proposing to spend 68 MILLION DOLLARS real soon to build a new MARSHALL MIDDLE SCHOOL. So you see this decision this hearing is about concerns EVERYONE.

NEVER before have the public stood up to question a decision made by members of the LYNN SCHOOL COMMITTEE who were elected to represent the BEST INTEREST of our children. Come be part of the history of Lynn, the history of our children!

FEEL FREE TO CUT AND PASTE TO ALL MEDIA OUTLETS

Lynn is known as a “City of Firsts”. Well Thursday night at 6 pm will be a first for the city of Lynn. That is when a Public Hearing on the Lynn School Committee’s decision not to post the position of Superintendent of schools will be held at the “Tiger’s Den” in Lynn Tech school on 90 Commercial Street in Lynn.

A group of disappointed parents organized a petition drive getting more than the necessary 150 signatures of registered voters necessary according to the city charter to force the mayor, who is also chairperson of the school committee to call a special public hearing to allow citizens to voice their opinions on the decision.

HOW MUCH DOES YOUR MONEY MATTER TO THE MAYOR?

During the special LSC meeting looking at the SUPERINTENDENT'S EVALUATION,
the MAYOR was on record questioning DR LATHAM;S fiscal acumen (ROLL THE TAPE, LYNNCAM).

However when it came time to vote on whether or not to get the best person for the job, all we got was a
BRADYLIKE

accolades (DON'T GO ANYWHERE LYNNCAM)

Now mind you in little more than a year we are looking on asking the city to spend 68 MILLION DOLLARS to build a new MARSHALL and we know the MAYOR doesn't have confidence in her spending practices. What transpired between the time those doubts were raised and the MAYOR voted to EXTEND LATHAM'S contract?

Did DR. LATHAM take an accounting course I wasn't aware of. Please excuse me for my ignorance, I'm really just a backward hillbilly, you all,

UNITED WAY AT THE LHA

The LYNN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION sponsored tonight's stop on the UNITED WAY'S COMMUNITY LISTENING TOUR at the Lynn Housing Authority. Although the event was not well attended but there was good energy in the building and FREE PIZZA. TRIPPY chowed down but actually still left plenty for ANTONIO GUTIERREZ to walk away with.

I was there to push the importance of education to solve our community's problems. JEFF HAYWARD, big shot at  the UNITED WAY was there to lend his support to our community's efforts.

SUPERINTENDENT WALSH'S HANDS OF LPS'S PROBLEMS

I don't know what's going on, I'm not too smart when it comes to all of this political stuff. I am just going to throw a few dots out there, it's up to someone smarter than me to connect them.

DR. LATHAM recently had her PRINCIPAL'S MEETING at some LYNN COMMUNITY HEALTH EVENT, which just so happened to be timed with some opening. Props to CATHE for the coverage. I, myself, have been guilty of a media addiction. Although mine is more of a SOCIAL disease.

Anyway, we have a mother of a state representative, who is rumored to be possibly interested in replacing our most HONORABLE MAYOR, extending the invitation for this unusual meeting place. Now the MAYOR is chairperson of the LSC and wouldn't you know it, LSC member JOHN FORD just happens to work for this state rep.

Being from WV, you know I appreciate KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY. You know, it just seems to me that I would rather hear about how our schools measure up against the rest of the state rather than a politically connected photo op.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?

DOCTOR TO BE "DATA-DRIVEN" OVER CLEO'S CLIFF

FORD SCHOOL ALUMNI and WELLSLEY GRAD, CLEO will wow the crowd with our woes. A leadership crisis will become apparent when we acknowledged the delusions delivered by the good doctor. CLEO'S CHARACTERISTICALLY CLEVER analysis will show how we have all been spun by the spin put on the data for possibly some personal advancement of some KEY personnel.

When everyone sees what the data actually denotes, you may want to use  those KEYS to unlock the stranglehold the superintendent is suffocating our system.

CLEO WILL CAUSE CONTROVERSY WITH DOE DATA

Some people in my INNER CIRCLE may chastise me for talking about strategy before the PUBLIC HEARING but figures don't lie it's all about what you've been told. When you hear "THE REST OF THE STORY" you will be questioning the current administrations definition of GOOD. The next question you'll be asking is WHEN DO WE ELECT A NEW LSC AGAIN?

We will be carrying CLEO on our shoulders down the halls of our schools on our shoulders (metaphorically for me since I AM A POOR, DISABLED POET).

"MOUNTAINEERS ARE ALWAYS FREE", ESPECIALLY WITH THEIR I-PADS

I have a question. I was talking to an old school friend last night who teaches a SPED class of back in WEST "BY GOD" VIRGINIA, Harrison County Schools,  and she told me that she has TWO I-PADS she uses in her classroom. How do we measure up? She was blown away when I told her the size of our budget.

I was too embarrassed to tell her we don't have enough of basic supplies and that we don't have enough text books for our kids to take home. Many of the ones we do have are so old that some students find names of a mother's sister written inside.

Maybe I should have bragged about how we are so big that we have over 25 people making six- figures but then I remembered those I-PADS.

GRAND OPENING-OPEN HOUSE AT LOTSASHOTS PHOTO STUDIO

I went here today and I got to tell you the man has talent, experience and a commitment to the city of LYNN.  While I never talked to him specifically about this project, I believe we could twist his arm and the community could benefit from all of his creative expertise. PROMOTING FROM WITHIN

I wonder what new jobs will be created after the PUBLIC HEARING?  PAYBACK PRINCESS POWERS was PROMOTED after her last touting of how FINE the good doctor is doing at FAILING. Our kids go without textbooks just so we can keep COMMERCIAL STREET CROWDED

Going by the track record, if you talk the tout, that's your ticket to the top. I hear rumblings about the revival of an ASSISTANT CURRICULUM DIRECTOR position, a plum position to be reinstated at a most opportune time, sure to insure the investment of lingering if latent loyalty.

OUR KIDS PAY THE PRICE, THEY PICK UP THE PAY!

OCCUPY LVTI IN THE TANK

She said she's going to so let's hold her to it if she stays around because after all we doing have that hearing thing going on you know. DR. LATHAM did talk positively about opening up LVTI but was once going to be MARCH has been moved back to OCTOBER. I hope so and I can't wait.

BUT.....,

why should we? There has definitely been talk about money woes. There is even the raffling off of RED SOX tickets. Really....? Maybe next we'll check in to that canning policy again

WHAT......,

we could do REAL CHEAP and REAL FAST is open up the pool at LVTI this SUMMER! This would really benefit the community at large.

It's been done before and it could be done again. MAKE IT WORK PEOPLE.

PAYING ATTENTION IS NOT IN THE BUDGET

Two acting Lynn principals made permanent

SO ONCE AGAIN, MAKE THAT TWICE AGAIN, community input is ignored when making decisions that we are expected along with our children are expected to pay for. So much for always having parents on the selection committee like DR. LATHAM had said is always the case. No wonder attorney MIHOS said NO VOTE is required after the PUBLIC HEARING. It is a culture thing. Ignoring is the norm.

The charter says, "FINAL ACTION IS REQUIRED". I guess INACTION is a form of action.

APRIL SHOWERS MAY BRING FLOWERS

Latham job hearing set for April 26

Some say showers, some say reign. The spring is a time for growth and that always happen when the reign stops and the sun comes out. The hearing will shed some light on the superintendent's record, good or bad. Being against it seems to me to be welcoming the dark. When you can't see you can't help but stumble and well, you know my balance is no good!

LATHAM'S LITTLE LIES

At last night's LSC meeting the good DOCTOR was dispensing some BAD medicine When asked if parents were going to be on the  committee to hire the new principal at INGALLS to replace KIMBERLEE POWERS who some think was rewarded for her glowing testimony in favor of extending CATHE'S CONTRACT with a juicy promotion to EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION.

I am sure someone will tout her qualifications but I think that LPS will get a nosebleed from the sudden rise in elevation. Instead of blood, we are hemmorrage  cash.

MEETING MESS!

They finally picked a day for our hearing! YIPEE!!!!

BUT.......,

word on the street is that it just so happens that TWO CITY COUNCILMEN FUNDRAISERS are on that night, BUZZY BARTON'S and BRENDAN CREIGHTON'S. I don't know that it was intentional

BUT

it sure will dampen potential turnout. Didn't we just have an election? The funny (really sad) thing is that LSC member CHARLIE GALLO already beat them to the punch.

HERE IS WHY WE NEED TO OCCUPY LVTI

U.S. attorney leads Breed discussion

This is a good article identifying and somewhat framing the problems our teens face. Bravo, job well done! But....,

then again so would looking at a police log.

What is needed are concrete proposals and actual programs to give our kids direction. That is why I have been such a proponent of OCCUPY LVTI. It could serve as a pilot program for positive change in our community.

Meetings have been held, DR. LATHAM has given her tentative approval but at the same time roadblocks have been thrown up making it impossible to come to fruition. This has allowed DR. LATHAM the luxury of appearing to be publicly in support of the idea but all the while helping to insure that it will never happen. She is a SMART lady.

Prove me wrong and let's get  this thing open. Once that is done there are school buildings all across the city that go mostly un or underused all across the city.

TIERNEY TOUTS TECH

  • John Dwyer shared Congressman John Tierney's photo.
Today I met with local students and community leaders to discuss the need to rea...uthorize the Workforce Investment Act so that we can expand opportunities for workers and help businesses fill high-skilled and open positions. We were lucky to have a delicious lunch prepared for us by students in the Lynn Vocational Technical School’s Culinary Arts program! These young people are a perfect example of why federal funding for technical education is so important.See More

Once again I kinda stole something, but I had good intentions, honest. I just wanted to show 2hat a GREAT JOB our kids do. I was in that same building last night without the student artists and we had to seyyle for cold take-out pizza and some kind of packaged salad mix. DR. LATHAM was their last night too, but I didn't notice her eating them.

PERSISTANT PROBLEMS

Listening to one of the FOCUS GROUPS at the pizza party thrown by the UNITED WAY at LVTI last night, there is a lot of concern about overcrowding. Of course different people have different perspectives. Some people were concerned with there kids in run down classrooms and then there is that problem with administrative occupancy.

CHECKING TEMPER-ATURES?

Does anyone else find it strange that the school committee members were involved in the hiring of the school nurses but don't have involvement n the hiring of top administration people? Heck in other districts PARENTS are involved in hiring PRINCIPALS, I don't know anybody who got a call. DO YOU?
