SHIP OF STATE ON AUTO-PILOT

You know I am in too much pain right now from my pinched nerve to do much so I watched a replay of the NOV. 13th LSC meeting. I have decided my nerve is not as pinched as the taxpayers of LYNN.

Despite getting a HUGH pay raise the MAYOR wasn't there to chair the meeting. That is HALF her job. When you take into consideration the committee's decision to CANCEL the second meetings in November and December, she comes up SHORT (could there be any other way?) in terms of her commitment to her job.

I AM SURE SHE HAD A LEGITIMATE REASON BUT......

MAKE TIME FOR MARSHALL

When will a principal at MARSHALL become permanent
WATCHing over how 92 MILLION is spent.

Lots off concern over an MCAS score
But true education is so much more.

Getting along with your neighbor and friend
Is the most valuable lesson learned in the end.

A school its community it does reflect
So take great care in what you expect.

DID BIRDS GET FLIPPED?

I don't know the answer to this question, that's why I am asking. For who knows how many years, the students at FORD SCHOOL participate in a raffle of sorts that saw many of the students going home with a FREE Thanksgiving Turkey.

I wonder if the tradition continued with a fresh flock of frozen fowl?

SILLY TO SAY

Public schools, KIPP at odds over taking up space

I HAVE MADE NO SECRET - "I am not a fan of charter schools - it's a funding thing".

Still LPS'S and the MAYOR'S plea for a hold on KIPP'S expansion plan is not too persuasive to me.

"WE DON'T WANT THEM TO BUILD A NEW SCHOOL BECAUSE WE GOT TOO MANY STUDENTS!"

Yeah, Okay.

MY OPINION HERE!

The trouble is while the money folllows the student, it doesn't follow them back. KIPP can't keep kids.

School department enrollment numbers for September through November indicate 41 KIPP students left the Highlands school to enroll in 11 Lynn public schools

What percentage of their enrollment is that? That number will multiply once younger kids are factored into the equation. Little kids are not as serious about their education as their parents are.

Somebody better start practice saying, "You kids can't play like your friends,  you have school you fool."

IN HER IMAGE

Here's something to think about. All three middle schools have NEW principals. Now TECH willll have a NEW one soon. CLASSICAL lost a LEVEL and from what I am hearing there appears to be a concentrated effort going on there. Then we have FORD SCHOOL where a beloved principal who had somewhat of an oppositional approach was replaced.

Then we had the whole CALLAHAN-COBBETT SHUFFLE that allowed a HARRINGTON person to move into COBBETT. After FORD was demolished we had anoter princiPAL from HARRINGTON perform some remodeling and remolding from its ashes. Forget the FALCONS, the PHOENIX is the new mascot. THE BIRD IS THE WORD.

THE NEW OLD BOY'S

With the power of the purse
Principals bubble do get burst.

Once the old retire
Now will be free to hire

Those who you will praise
To justify yourself a raise.

You future you will control
The only cost, your soul.

HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA

First it was CLASSICAL down to LEVEL 2
Then to principal of TECH, "See you".

Was allof this done
To elevate the standing of the "FAVORED SON"?

We may never know
For whose courtesy was the show.

So while the caged bird sings
The Superintendent pulls the strings.

WHICH WILL BE THE WOTRING WING

They report.....

Marshall project on the beam

you decide.

There will be two wings, one at the school’s Empire Street end and the other nearer Chatham Street.

PICKERING IS PUTTING IT ON

Next week (11/24-26) is Pickering Spirit Week:
Monday: Mismatch day.
Tuesday: Twins Day.
Wednesday: Pickering Pride Day: Wear school colors or a Pickering shirt. Shirts are available at the school store for $5.

WHO'S IT ALL ABOUT?

I've gotta tell you, the turnout at yesterday's FORD principl's interview was HUGHELY disappointing. There were plenty of seats and not many parents, actually not many of ANYbody.

The kids were all told several times about the upcoming interviews and instructed to tell their parents. That sure gives the impression of OPENESS and the desire to engage the student's parents. REALLY NOW....?

AND WHAT WORLD DO THESE LPS ADMINISTRATORS LIVE IN?

I understand that children were not allowed to watch the interviews and I saw no arrangements for childcare off in another room. Since no kids were in school there were plenty of empty, available rooms child care could have been made available so perhaps the audience could have been larger and perhaps more reflective of the community served by the school.

However by subtling discouraging parental participation and engagement with a carefully constructed campaign of passive-aggressive condescendtions, one can give the appearance of soliciting input while at the same time controlling the types of input. Having spent about TEN years on ROCK AVE. I can tell you there are not many NANNIES in the HIGHLANDS. Most people are stuck watching their own kids.

HOW YA GONNA SPEND TIME ALONE WATCHING INTERVIEWS WHEN YA GOT KIDS TO WATCH?

CHANGES, CONTROL, AND CHAOS

Diane Paradis, who helped lead the school out from under a cloud of state scrutiny and improved the...

Clearly MS. PARADIS has plenty of RIGHT reasons to retire! Even though I AM A MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL, I have no inside information just what's PUBLISHED.

Do you really think they would trust me to keep a secret?

Honestly I gotta wonder though I gotta wonder if this is a CORRECTIVE ACTION. Corrective in terms of VISION. I wonder how much the fact that LPS kept encroaching on TECH space had to do with the decision. I know that MS. PARADIS was very interested in seeing TECH grow and I did ask her in a PUBLIC meeting once how the EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER impacted those plans. She assured me they would not. I was a little skeptical about the numbers but hey like I've always said MATH is not my thing. FUNNY though, I believe that was before they added several more classes and I keep hearing rumblings of more.

Maybe, just maybe, all of these principals were like cataracts on DR. LATHAM'S vision for our schools.

THE THING IS ABOUT THE REMOVAL OF CATARACTS (I AM SPEAKING AS A VETERAN OF THREE SURGERIES), YOU MAY SEE CLEARER JUST NOT NECESSARILY BETTER.

HICO NO SHOW

When I  heard some one other than me was going to REPRESENT the HIGHLANDS COALITION on the interview panel for the NEW FORD principal.I admit I was more than a little offended. I mean I know that our group actually had the AUTHORITY to choose who would represent us on the panel. That was someone at LPS's call.

Just because I spent all those years on the SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL, I volunteered in the library, I have been a HICO board member since I helped write te articles of incorporation, and a long list of other things on my resume, why should I expect to be chosen?

Maybe HICO couldn't pick me buuuut they could have publically advocated for me and made their displeasure PUBLIC.

UNLESS....

THEY WEREN'T REALLY DISPLEASED.

You see lots of pople like to egg me on yet they develop balance problems when it comes to making waves. It's okay, I'm used to standing alone.

I couldn't stay mad too long though cause I just had to chuckle cause in the end the HIGHLANDS COALITION had no one representing them. Prepare to be marginalized.

ASSIMILATE TO ELIMINATE!

THE DISCOVERY

Looks like the unavoidable fact
Is that I have been stabbed in the back.

The truth I try to expose
In order that everybody knows

Things that aren't so clear.
Some say they want to hear

But the truth comes to light
When doing whatever to avoid the fight.

SAFETY NOT ON THE MENU

You know TECH has a special place in my heart! On top of that

I LOVE THE STUDENTS INVOLVEMENT IN THIS.

BUT.......

WHAT ABOUT THE early childhood center? HOW CAN YOU HANDLE SECURITY?

LET'S FIND OUT ABOUT THE FIX

Being crooked like I am, my spine I mean, I do keep my ear close to the ground. Besides making my ear dirty, I did hear a couple names being put out there, pre-selected for princiPAL positions  that were posted.
Funny, I'm waiting for these PUBLIC INTERVIEWS.

I DID PUT IT OUT THERE THAT I WOULD VOLUNTEER TO BE ON THE INTERVIEW COMMITTEE. I HOPE THEY DIDN'T FORGET ABOUT MY BLOCKAGE,

I mean, I am sure everything will be above board. After all, this is Lynn and nothing fishy ever happens here.

If those names to happen to pop up I will have some questions.......

THE CHECKS IN THE MAIL AND IT'S A REALITY CHECK

Spending shortfalls? You bet.
Current funding? All set.

Might as well forget
Amounts of School Spending Net.

After all, let's get real.
The DESE does not have the political will

To enforce the whole bill
So, our kids will be shortchanged still,
