From The City Of Sin To Sin City

Coming up from March 24-27, the Lynn Teachers Union requested and got approval to send four  paraprofessionals to the 2011 Annual AFT Paraprofessional And School-Related Personnel in Las Vegas. I would hope the union is paying for all this.

Professional development is vital but I think maybe they could develop a little closer. That way maybe more than four would have the opportunity. Vegas is nice though, especially after the winter we have had.

  1. I assure you the LTU is paying for it. Every penny. But I'm a teacher and I don't want to pay for it. I guess I don't have a choice in the matter. I just have to pay my union dues (which will probably be going up again).

  2. I wonder though, I'd bet LTU is paying for the junket but I'd also bet LPS is paying their salary. But I'm not even related to a teacher so I could be wrong.

  3. LPS would normally pay professional days for staff to attend approved conferences if they positivly affect thier job. I do know, via my wife, that at they do share the information that they gain while attending. I would assume that LTU is picking up the costs.
LVTI used to allow me 2 professional days to attend the automotive/collision convention each November. I would pick up my own expenses, which ran over $1,200 but LPS paid me 2 days to go. Because I am heavily involved in my industry on a National level, I would speak at certain events, including speaking to automotive educators. Through one of these events I was able to have a $10,000 curriculum that I had wanted for years but LPS could not pay for, donated by Allstate Insurance. I also worked deals to get donations and discounts for the program. So while trips to Vegas may sound dicey (parden the pun), they are not all bad.

  5. I am glad you are waking up Stanley to see the TRUE Rick Starbard. He is NO friend of yours or SPED.

  6. He even admits to working out deals. That sounds dicey to me!

  8. A718, you're are right, I am waking up. As you may have read in my reply to Rick's comment, stick with school issues and leave the comedy to me. I don't want to be replaced here, too.

  9. sorry but I find none of this funny. he is very sarcastic and rude. he does not care about our kids. just bring your car to him to be fixed and he slaps a bumper sticker on it. just what we need. another "buddy" in the disfunctional system. lets hope that vinny wakes up to and does not run again. another rude person to make such comments about us and our kids. just vote them out. get all of us special ed parents and blow them away. they only come around when they want something.

  10. The problem here is we need to stop "business as usual". Junkets to Vegas are business as usual. Golden parachutes for retiring supers: business as usual. We can't afford business as usual anymore. Next week the salaries come out in the newspaper. Lots of goodies in there for you Stanely.

  11. Are you talking about monkey business? Cause at this rate we will go "out of business". 5 failing schools the state has to be itching to take over.

  12. Do you people ever read what Rick writes. His deal was to get expensive material for the LYNN SCHOOLS donated. You have a nerve talking about his sarcasim. He's responding to your trash talk about subjects you obviously have no understanding of what so ever and answers every question/comment with sarcastic humor!! If you have something to say say it to his face and stop hiding behind the blog.
