I am waiting for more information from the DESE, but if I am understanding the information correctly, Lynn included (in error) a total of roughly $11.2 million for retiree health insurance toward NSS in two years (roughly $5.5 million in FY13 and $5.7 million in FY14). This resulted in the $18.6 million (including penalties) shortfall Lynn has today. Although, the Mayor recently stated she allocated $1.7 million to the schools so this would bring the shortfall to $16.9 million. Negotiations are ongoing, so this shortfall figure could (and most likely will) decrease. However, my guess is Lynn will still have a significant shortfall (somewhere around $9 million) even after penalties are waived and negotiations come to an end. We shall see!OF LOOT
