Dear Mayor Kennedy,
According to a e mail I have seen from Mary Audley, City Clerk, the Sec. of the School Commitee was notified as early as sometime in February that the threshold for mandating a public hearing on LPS's severing of ties with Gordon College.
In the parking lot after the meeting when the decision was made, both you and I agreed that there may well have been constitutional issues in question. As chairperson of the Lynn School Committee I am asking you to urge Mr. Iarrobino to act swiftly to resolve this matter.
Given the number and scope of the many financial and academic challenges confronting LPS, we can ill afford the luxury of misdirected outrage. Whenever possible real substantial change comes through engagement. Little is actually learned from enforcement.
