OUT IF THE FRYING PAN AND INTO THE FIRE

ity Inspectional Services Director Michael Donovan this week said the city is no longer planning to keep the existing Marshall building on Porter Street standing after the new school opens in 2016.

Does this sound like covering tracks to anybody else? If it is like any old building there are ASBESTOS tiles and the contamination leaches into the concrete. So we are not talking just a few tons of contaminated waste we have to dispose of. Concrete floors are PRETTY heavy.

ANOTHER THING.....

if it is so bad we have to tear it down right away, why are we okay with exposing our kids to it while we build on BROOKLINE?

  1. Save the quotes. All misinformation. The school committee says Marshall will be a swing space for Pickering.

    2. I certainly hope the city does not plan on using this building as a swing space for Pickering. It may have been suggested and mentioned by school committee members, but a final decision was never made. Anyone who has been in this building knows it is not appropriate or safe for children to be in it now and it is extremely unfortunate and dangerous that children are forced to attend school in it for the next 3 years until the new one is expected to be completed. It most certainly will not be appropriate several years from now for the Pickering students to use.

  4. I heard a rumor, and that is all it is at the moment. The mayor of Lynn gets a bonus for every 'new building' constructed under their 'reign'? Thus why Classical and Manning Bowl were 'condemned' to build a new? Would anyone have any research or insight in this? Is it in the charter?
