DESCRIPTION OF THE SEWELL-ANDERSON DISASTER
"The damage on the second floor is all encompassing to include seven classrooms. The ceilings and walls are totally caved and collapsed, the damage to texts and materials is in the total loss category and various equipment is heavily damaged. “Smartboards” look to have been salvaged and covered. As previously reported, at present the school will not be open on Monday. There is a large work crew on site as we communicate and will continue its work through the night. Faculty members and aides will be at the school on Saturday morning beginning at ten to clean, remove and categorize by item, the exact loss of materials, supplies and textbooks"
How about a telethon to raise money help pay for some of the items lost in the SEWELL SPRINKLER DISASTER? It could be broadcast on LynnCAM and of course rebroadcast as part of their programming cycle. Kids from the LYNN PUBLIC SCHOOLS could have an opportunity to show their talent. More importantly, it would give the community a chance to give back and become involved, We are all vested in the education of all our kids.
I am sure everyone at Sewell-Anderson would love and appreciate any and all donations, particularly those supplies that teachers pay for out of their own pockets. Items such as pens, pencils, markers, highliters, dry erase markers, folders, notebooks, composition books, binders, crayons etc.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, the ITEM will cover the story so we will know what they need.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest donating gift cards to Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree, and Lakeshore Learning, so that teachers can replace high priority items first. Each grade level has different needs. The biggest loss for teachers will be the high priced learning materials, manipulatives, games, and teacher resource books they have purchased from Lakeshore and other teacher stores over the years.
ReplyDeleteGood idea!
DeleteThis was so preventable! Who shut the heat or did not have the sprinklers properly inspected. Take your pick. Once again students suffer.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that LPS is going to blame the sprinkler company on this one. Where was the inpsectional services? Are they required to check buildings during very cold temps or bad weather? So sad and horrible for the poor students and teachers.
Sadly, the schools have nothing to do with maintenance or the janitors. I don't think they even control the thermostat. This INSPECTIONAL SERVICES baby. Sad but our kids will pay the price for CITY POLITICS.
DeleteWhoever is to blame, shame on them. Our children suffer. I am glad to see that the Principal/Staff/families are working together for a positive solution for the children. Now, I would suggest that the families call the Super/School Commtittee members and get some financial support NOW!!! What do you think?
DeleteYou are right about City Politics. I am sick of it! Our children are always last unless election year!
Who to call: Mayor, City Hall and School Committee members, Inspectional Services on this one. Tell them to check on all of our schools and make sure they are functioning properly at all times. So preventable, unless defective equipment!
We will see how this one plays out.
