LYNN LOSES TO INSTITUTIONAL SEGREGATION

You know the timing of this whole thing is kind of funny in a sad ironic sort of way. At the same time the new movie LINCOLN picked up all those OSCAR nominations, the DOSE or the DOE or whatever name that organization has just done something that will make the abolitionist weep. I don't believe you can blame LPS for this but since LYNN tries to lay claim to the legacy of FREDRICK DOUGLASS it is especially bitter..

The states NEW mandate that ALL teachers that deal with an ELL population must take some new 45 hour course or lose their certification, their job, their livelihood. Years of experience and  all the money spent on past education will go into the toilet if they fail. Now you know what issues some of our schools already have with bathrooms so can you imagine the problems that will be caused when we try and flush all of this down the drain.

The net effect of this new mandate, I think, is to cause the older more experienced teachers to flee urban districts (remember we're one - at the top of the bottom). Even though I like the fact that the state recognizes the importance of communication, I do question the harshness of the compliance requirements in a pragmatic sense.. The proven MASTER TEACHERS will probably either move out or retire, thereby robbing our students of their wisdom.

A question comes to mind, "How will charter schools be effected bu this?". You can't threaten thhier teachers with recertification cause they have none.
