A HARD ACT TO FOLLOW

That would be a CIRCUS ACT.

Only seven more days until the ATTEMPT at MASS HYPNOTISM occurs. We got NO lion tamers but they will attempt to convince you fantasy is reality as it pertains to the 2013 LPS BUDGET on AUGUST 2 at 6:00 pm in the DEN of TIGERS.

I realize these are PRETTY STRONG words but let me remind you where I am coming from. Here is the budget they have been saying on their webpage they will be voting on: 2013 School Department Budget (Proposed).

Changes have already been voted on an approved by the standard 4-3 vote. All but 3 princiPALS will be getting paid MORE than is listed on their salary line. On what basis do I make that allegation? Glad you asked. Because this BUDGET was approved by the LSC 4-3BEFORE everybody went into a BACK ROOM and the proposed uneven RAISES/SALARY ADJUSTMENTS were approved. On top of that a unanimous 2.5% raise was offered to all principals. The principal's salary lines are listed as the same for 2012 as 2013. How is that?

The icing on the cake for this MASQUERADE BALL is the fact the TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR boost to the SUPERINTENDENT'S BASE (don't get me started on ACTUAL numbers) is reflected NOWHERE.

Now that vaunted legal scholar ATTORNEY MIHOS has gone on record (well he told me) that the LSC is within there parameters to move money from one line to another in the budget with a vote. I get that. I mean there are two lawyers on the LSC - CHARLIE and JUDY - who already voted for these SECRET RAISES       and we all know how lawyers are held in such high esteem.

I guess maybe if I would have went to LAW SCHOOL to I would understand the LEGALITY of this shell game and I wouldn't think it was just a BAIT AND SWITCH. You know, show the BUDGET with lower numbers, pass it in PUBLIC, then SWITCH it with the REAL BUDGET complete with MORE MONEY FOR FRIENDS.

  1. Attorney Mihos is not the only person misguided by what he believes our school committee has the 'right' to do with funds. The deputy commissioner of the Dept of Education also believes that the school committee has final approval of how money is spent. I of course informed him this is not true (in Lynn anyways) Our school committee did not vote and approve the raises given to the selected group of principals...Dr. Latham made that decision all on her own. But as a result of Dr. Latham's decision to give out raises at her sole discretion, our school committee then had to vote on how these raises would be divided. Perhaps in the high achieving, non-failing districts, the school committee operates as it should and has final approval over funds, but Lynn's school committee doesn't even have goals, nevermind a clue on what they have the 'right' to do or not to do. Dr. Latham takes full advantage of the fact that Lynn is a poverty stricken city that gets a significant amount of funding from the state and that our school committee isn't educated on what their actual roles and responsibilities are (and some members do not care what they are because they are only concerned with their own personal agendas) This allows her to abuse her power as superintendent and spend the funding as she sees fit without much challenge from our school committee.
