School Department Should be Cutting High Paid Positions
I was looking at this story from last week. They must be reading my blog and you know what they can't add either or maybe they maybe they just forgot like I am prone to do sometimes.
I mean they added up DR. LATHAM'S and SUE ROWE'S cost and ball parked at around
$400,000. Nice field.
But the LPS line-up has a few other heavy hitters in the line-up. There is DR. WARRY, the OTHER deputy at about $130,000 with another Confidential Secretary ($350 a month + 50K/year) and we need to add another 100K for SUE ROWE'S replacement (you wouldn't want to have a vacancy would you?), so that's roughly another $300,000.
SO....,
that's $400,000 + $300,000 = the 16th lowest out of 297 school districts in the STATE when they do the testing that they do. You would think with those kind of salaries, we would have a better team.
Hey Stan.....Perhaps a more suitable title would be "The cost of failure, LPS style" It must be nice to make a 6 figure salary, have your own personal secretary (Oh I am sorry...2 personal secretaries), your own big office, and your own monthly car allowance, while failing at your job!! Unless of course, Dr. Latham considers being one of the lowest 10% districts in the state (ranked 16 out of 297 districts) a success, then yes she is definitely successful!!
ReplyDeleteLORI,
ReplyDeleteYou are so smart. Both the JOURNAL and I FORGOT to add in the 50K for DR. LATHAM;S second secretary. I guess losing pays pretty good for some people.
Let me just add.....I am not saying her job is an easy one and I am aware of the challenges Lynn faces that other districts may not. However, because our district does face more challenges than others, which of course would make Lynn's superintendent's job more challenging than others, is all the more reason why we NEED a superintendent that has more experience and qualifications than Dr. Latham has. And we NEED to STOP spending the "limited funds" we have filling office space on Commercial Street and start spending them to actually improve the education our children are suppose to be receiving (Remember the children?) This means smaller classroom sizes and providing the necessary and required supplies, resources and services to ALL the children (not just a selected few in hopes of getting schools out of their level 4 status, which of course would get the district out of their level 4 status, which of course would APPEAR that we are improving, when if fact we are not) We NEED a more qualified and experienced superintendent (and administration) who are able to meet and overcome the challenges our district faces before our district and schools end up being THE lowest in the state (which is where they are headed)
ReplyDeleteLori, once again I marvel at your intelligence. Yes, being Superintendent is a tough job, especially when you have a poet picking apart you every move and you should have a salary commensurate with the challenge but then again you need to produce results. Whenever we do get those "limited funds", they are spent like they're burning a hole in Kevin McHugh's pocket.
ReplyDeleteSo how much would you pay a secretary to the super? This person needs excellent skills and discretion? Have you checked the salaries in other cities? Again...no facts, just blowing out junk! Other places have more administrative jobs in all categories...look into it!
ReplyDeleteThe superintendent haas been around to all the schools looking for space toadd classrooms. There is no room... Some principals are hoarding space for their own gain and have fought the super about adding classrooms despite the fact that class size is huge....go after the principals.
ReplyDeleteHelp out here, I want to get to the bottom of this. Would that be the SAME principals that heaped praise on LATHAM for being a great superintendent? What were they whording there?
