I learned in the meeting today there are three different proposed sites for the new MARSHALL. The supposedly favored one is on the sight of the current MARSHALL but a public park (not identified but clearly Kiley park) and the other is some private building vacant building that the land could be bought.
Site #1- at Marshall- If we build it there demolishing completely would be the easest to do. The hardest thing would be to find a place to put the 961 students for however many years. We are not talking about moving a class or two, we are talking a WHOLE school. To hear MIKE DONOVAN from ISD talk today one possible option was to move them into the other two middle schools.
Really. really? BREED is overcapacity as it is and PICKERING is about 20 years older than MARSHALL
If they go with the other two sites the kids would go to school where they are now....
BUT...
Site # 2 - public park (Kiley) - demolish the current building and the city charter mandates that an equivalent park be built there.
OR...
Site #3 - The private property - MARSHALL would still have to be torn down because there are no plans to use that building for anything it is so bad, hence MSBA is calling for a NEW school without entertaining the possibility of rehab
A private parcel of land lends itself to the potential of CORRUPTION. I point to CLASSICAL as the classical example.
SO PICK YOUR POISON!
The fact that anyone involved in this project would even suggest sending the Marshall kids to the other 2 middle schools is just idiotic....please tell me you are joking!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a question of leadership, look at who's putting forth the proposals.
DeleteI seriously think it's time to think about moving !
ReplyDeleteStanley..it's simple...put the kids in the Tech Annex where all the administrators are taking up educational space...they don't belong there...the grant was for educating children not administrative offices...divide the school up if they have too...Fecteau Leary has room and LVTI ANNEX they will be all set...COWDELL IS A SUPERIOR PRINCIPAL AND HE CAN HANDLE ANYTHING THROWN HIS WAY...THE MAN IS INCREDIBLE AND ALWAYS DOES WHAT'S BEST FOR THE KIDS...portable classrooms might be a great idea for Marshall located at Kiley Park or on LYNN TECH FIELD behind the towers...keeping them together would be great...portable classrooms, offices, and Cowdell all on Lynn Tech field is the way to go...Cowdell will make it work keeping the kids interest and educating performing to the max...his staff is excellent...the kids will not suffer at Marshall between the principal and the staff they will make it work!
ReplyDeleteBetter yet stick the administrators in portable offices that would be better for the kids...move them not the educational environment...make it easy! This would also build up Tech's student ratio and MAYBE SOME OF THE KIDS WOULD LIKE TO SEEK TECH AS THEIR HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION...The main bldg, annex, and portable space in the field can make it happen overnight...nice weather coming utilize the gym for classes and put gym classes @ the YMCA or in between the main and field house bldgs. or the parking spaces behind the auto body shop...what's at the Blood Bldg too? OPEN THY EYES PEOPLE!
Just saying....
You are wise, my friend except in some ways it's easier than you think. The administration is already supposed to VACATE their offices and relocate them to COMMERCIAL STREET. STUDY HAS BEEN DONE AND PAID FOR. Whisperings in the halls are that while the MAYOR is all for the move, the SUPER, not so much.
DeleteThe idea of the kids moving to TECH was BARELY mentioned in the PRE-BID MEETING for the feaseability study last week at MARSHALL.(I might add I was the ONLY parent or journalist, psuedo or otherwise in the building.)
Then there is the other complication that I heard at the last LSC meeting DR. COWDELL has applied for another job and who could turn down that smile?
