I guess it makes the budget more manageable and am sure it's COMFORTING TO KNOW YOU GOT SOME MAD MONEY STASHED IN THE BUDGET FOR OTHER THINGS. Kind of like a rainy day fund with a sunny forecast.
I am talking about the fact that the same amount, $64, 662, is budgeted for every teaching position. Only thing is.....
MOST TEACHER PROBABLY DON'T GET THAT MUCH. You see there's plenty of wiggle here because they're all not the same size rooms.
You see, you gotta budget like everybody gets the goods in vase they do, you know that BUMPING AND BIDDING BUSINESS What do you think happens with the difference between what you bidget and what you pay?
BEATS ME?
True transparency is more than seeing where money goes, it's seeing where it went.
Wrong again....most teachers make more. Figure in the 2 professional days ... Longevity... Sick times buy back... And step increases...educational increases....never mind retirement buy back....it all adds up. Contrary to your opinion they know what they are doing.. Shouldn't a candidate for school committee have an idea of where the money goes...
ReplyDeleteSorry but you miss the point. Sounds like you're someone who has self-identity problems. Heck you don't even know your own name. I am not sure about all of your math...BUT....you do bring up one of my points = it's hard to get the LOWDOWN on spending cause we got a line for this, a line for that.....LOW...DOWN.
DeleteI believe it is you that is wrong! Most teachers do not make more than that. However, you do bring up an excellent point...a candidate for school committee should not only have an idea of where they money goes,he/she should know exactly where it goes. So should the super, the administration, Kevin, the current school committee members, and everyone else who is interested in knowing. The problem is there is zero transparency in the Lynn Public Schools budget and spending. Therefore, no one knows where all the money is going. The only thing we know for sure is a big chunk of it is going to the outrageous salaries being paid to administrators and secretary's,which I couldn't believe when I read the post about it. Let's face it,the money isn't going to the schools and students and the MCAS scores and condition of the schools is evidence of that fact.
DeleteI Love Lucy! You are on point! If you remember one of last years DOLLAR DAZE posts that an Adjusted Salary with the benefits I could find was $264,0000! The sad thing is no one told me or SHOWED me that I was wrong!
DeleteThat is not how budgets are figured...line items figure specific categories...like a teacher salary at at specific step. Longevity is another line, sick time buy back another line...retirement buy back another, professional days another. You need to be a bit more aware of the accounting practices to read a line item budget . The $ 60,000 figure it a top figure under the contract without the other items figured in. You all need to be more aware of what is what before you hand out the criticism . Not very educationally sound on your part.
ReplyDeleteIf I were you,I would stick to your day job and not speak about areas that are clearly out of your skill set. A budget should have transparency and the Lynn Schools budget certainly does not. The budget lacks a great deal of specific line items.Mr. McHugh's favorite phrase to say is, "That money has been moved from this line item to another line item" Even his phrase lacks transparency. The reason he does this is because even he doesn't have a clue where all the money goes and he cannot account for it all.
DeleteWell to be honest you made several of my points but missed the meaning, You are right the final salary is pieced together from parts of several lines. That's what makes it hard get anyone who gets dizzy easy to follow the money The base salary has to be budget at the highest amount do that anyone can havr any position. obviously a first year teacher is not going to make the same as someone with lots ph seniority/
