DOLLAR DAZE III - OUT OF PLACE, OUT OF MIND BUT STILL IN THE POCKET

Looks like our out of district placement are up about $700.000 this year. I don'y lnpw the number of students served but I would think any increase is just a continued reflection of somebody's failure to make the services available,

We should just do what we need to do unless we like employing bus drivers. In that case, I could use a ride to the grocery store.

On a good note, our OUT OF DISTRICT tutoring costs remained level at 72K. Is this like FOREIGN EXCHANGE?

  1. Just what exactly is out of district placement? Is it kids who are sent to school in another city,or is it kids who are sent to another Lynn school that is not their neighborhood school? Why are there so many kids who are placed out of district?

    1. It's usually SPED placements that we don't have the APPROPRIATE programs for, usually the DOE is involved. It has been said certain political people get preferential TREATMENT but far be it for me to start any rumors.

  2. Have you aspen any of the programs offerd in lynn for these severely learning disabled kids? If you aren't an advocate. Your child is put in with others, all of different learning disabilities. There are out placement schools that specialize that can really help students who truly need specific expertise. Some parents fight for it, some don't know how, other listen to bad advice , some don't care.

  3. If it were my child and there was any chance and ourptside placement was better I would fight like hell for it...hire an educational attorney, get privately tested because the city testers try to avoid outside placement.
