STARBARD GIVEN SLEEPING SUPPLEMENT BY SOME SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEMBERS

After carrying the mail for me (Didn't he know LPS pays someone to deliver intra-agency mail?) about the bogus budget, Rick went ahead and voted for the sham budget (well it was no longer exactly sham).

You see the budget as put out there to the public was amended there in public at STARBARD'S request. So I should be happy, no.

NO!!!!!!!!

All passing this revised budget did was to barely scold some other members of the LSC for trying to pull a fast one on the public. They weren't even told NOT TO DO IT AGAIN.

On top of that we were never given the actual figures regarding the raise and where it came from. We were told the money came from a salary slush fund with the unspoken implication there is more where that came from.

So at the risk of incurring LOIS'S wrath, I am going to publicly chastise RICK for falling for this SONG AND DANCE. The vote was 6-1, so he was NOT the only one. Only DONNA COPPOLA stood for transPARENTcy.

In my closing remarks at the PUBLIC HEARING I wished everyone who voted for this budget a good night's sleep because our nightmare continues.

  2. Stan ,I am not quite sure what you mean with the “carrying the mail” comment. If someone has a concern, I will explore it but I do not do anyone’s work for them. On the topic of presenting an up to date budget, I never had a conversation with you about it. In fact, I had no idea that you were even going to bring it up last night.
That being said, I did express my concerns in the days leading up to the hearing that I felt that a budget that reflected the changes in some salaries and any other changes that had taken place between the time that the committee unanimously voted to send the budget to a hearing and the days just prior to the hearing, be placed online and sent electronically to the full committee. The only reason was so that we all had a document that was more accurate than the one drafted almost two months ago. While that didn’t happen, I felt it important to not only raise the subject so that it is on record, but also to insure that next year’s budget is more accurate at the time of the public hearing. When the motion was made to accept the budget as presented along with the amended changes that have taken place since then, I felt comfortable in moving forward with the understanding that we will be seeing those changes in print once the school year begins. If we do not see it during the month of September, I will bring it up again.
Budgets are always in a state of flux. If the budget passed last night had reflected the changes made to that point, that budget would be different by Wednesday. We still have positions to be filled including some vice-principals and all of the students that will be enrolled in LPS have not signed up and been assigned yet. Once those changes take place, the budget lines will change again. I am sure that your own household budgets change many times during the year for a myriad of reasons. It is because of these changes that take place during the year including grant and other funding sources that are paid after the budget is approved, I have asked that we see budget versus actual reports at least quarterly through the year. I believe that this is the first time in history that we have had that kind of transparency. Prior to requesting these reports, once the budget was approved no one saw it again until the following year when it was time to approve the next one. As I said when this process first began, if we don’t see the numbers change for income and expenses during the year, the whole budget process is a waste of time.
Now, I don’t know what you thought voting the whole budget down would have accomplished short of dragging it out into the beginning of the school year. I did not and still do not see the benefit in that especially knowing that we will see the changes after the year begins. Between your commentary during the hearing as well as the messages delivered by both Donna and myself, I think that we did a pretty good job in insuring that this time next year; the budget will be more accurate to the date.

  3. Thanks for the update on what you did Rick! Too bad, it is not on video so that the public can also see your sub committee meetings and discussions on topics. Most of the work is done behind closed doors and I think this is what makes the public angry. They only know about it when the daily item puts it out there. Maybe something can be done to have all of the SC meetings video taped. It appears that some SC members are taking with Latham and others prior to your meetings and deals are being made even before you can all collectively meet and discuss topics or agenda items. It leaves the community feeling betrayed! But, thanks again for explaining, what you did!

  4. OH please Stanley...worrying about what Lois thinks...she only thinks about herself and her husband...she needs to grow up and Rick needs to put her in her place...she is not on the SC...it's pretty sad if you have a disagreement with Rick the next call you get is his wife drilling...great to be happily married, but we elected Rick not Lois...so sick of her and check on who she is friendly with maybe you can write alot more blogs to run your numbers up...just saying!

  5. ANON 754
I AGREE WITH YOU! SELFISH PEOPLE!
I hear from friends in LPS, that Lois is in Menninos office or calling her constantly. Also, Stanley you have every RIGHT to call him OUT when he votes the way he did. It hit a nerve or else he would not be writting a whole story to explain why he screwed our children. I am glad I did not vote for him, I could see that he was NOT loyal to our children!!! He is in the MAYORS office more than her so called staff.
You learn something new everyday. They present well in public, BUT she packs a PUNCH at him and she is pissed! I guess we need to be prepared for her WRATH after writing this. LETS HIDE ANON 754 and STANLEY!

  6. “HIDE””??? Aren’t both of you already hiding by remaining anonymous? You spread lies about people yet you lack the courage to put your name to your statements. What sad lives you both must lead. I love the “happily married” statement. That is the only truthful thing either of you banana heads stated. As of the 16th, Lois and I will have been happily married for 26 years. That day is also my birthday. You can mail cards to 221 Verona St. I can easily see how “happily married” must be a point of envy with you. I would imagine that anyone married to someone like you is either miserable or has already dumped you.
Now let me fill you in a little.
FACT: If you knew both Stan and my wife, you would know that they have a joking relationship and I believe that is what Stan was referring to. I doubt that he thinks that she was going to hunt him down and beat him with his own cane.
FACT: I can assure you that I have been in the Mayor’s office for meetings less than a half dozen times over the past 32 months that I have been in office.
FACT: My wife has never been in Dr. Mennino’s office and has never even entered the SPED building. Where do you get this stuff?
FACT: On your statement about not being loyal to our kids; I enjoyed an awesome record while teaching at Tech. I have gotten countless kids jobs and still do to this day. I remain in close contact with many of my former students. My wife has works tirelessly with many special needs kids for very low pay. Any and all parents and staff that she has worked with would attest to this. I have given thousands of dollars over the years to just about every cause that you can think of and just in the last few days donated almost one thousand dollars to Babe Ruth, Jarrod Raymond scholarship race and the Hogan basketball tournament. I support and attend countless events around the city constantly and serve as President of the board of LYSOA. What have you done??
FACT: I answered Stan’s original post to explain why I voted the way that I did. It didn’t “strike a nerve”. He was giving his opinion and I gave mine. At least we put our names to it. That my friends is called a healthy debate. I like being able to explain things in an open forum. When this blog first began, everyone posted their names. When you make statements anonymously, it is like the Item blog.
If you would like to engage in a healthy, respectful conversation with me over any issue, feel free to contact me or post you name here and I will respond to you accordingly. If you would like to continue to post a bunch of lies and hide like cowards, I will continue to correct you with a smile on my face while I add a little sarcasm to my commentary. :)~

  7. Let me say even when Idisagree with Rick like this time, I know he is thoughtful and his heart is with the kids so when he is WRONG, it's not so bad. As for Lois, she is fiercely loyal to Rick and I like toteaseher

  8. I think we all just need to go to our "HAPPY PLACE".

  9. Having worked with Lois I can say that she is loyal to her students and is an all around great person. Yes, she will protect her family, motherly instincts, and may not come off to some of you as warm and fuzzy, but she is not the one is office so I don't know why you are bashing her.

  12. I am the son of two retired Lynn teachers with over 60 years of service between them, and I am currently studying to enter the noble profession myself. It is for these reasons that I have payed attention to the politics of education in the city for a long time, I truly care about all of the issues that we are faced with. I support Rick's decision on the budget. I believe it is very Roosevelt-ian to acknowledge what isn't perfect, cast it away and try something new, and you're right Stan, based on Starbard's record, it is abundantly clear that he cares about the kids, which is, we can all agree, what counts the most. Also, concerning his wife, I can appreciate the humor in mocking her, but dragging her into a forum like this is a little unreasonable and unfair. Although, I will say that whatever her opinion may be on any issue it's a little refreshing to come across a family who is so passionate and clearly cares so much.
