DID THE ITEM PARTICIPATE IN PLANNED DECEPTION?

I would like to think it was just a simple string of typos. I mean you all know I have that problem. Why not my journalistic BIG BROTHER?

It seems that the state doesn't recognize LYNN as even having an INNOVATION SCHOOL. Isn't that what I've been saying?

Here is what From: Rodriguez, Bridget (EOE) <bridget.rodriguez@state.ma.us> is saying:

My understanding is that Lynn had decided against their plan for an Innovation School at this time.

What does that say to you? I wonder where the ITEM got their information.

  1. Even though the Massachusetts Department of Education has clearly stated that Lynn DOES NOT have an innovation school, I still found the following announcement on the Lynn Public Schools website. I guess Dr. Latham & Company have taken it upon themselves to rename the Washington School merely because they believe it is an innovation school. Doesn't she know that a name is just a name and that by merely calling it an innovation school, doesn't make it one!! My next email to the Executive Office of Education will be asking them if Dr. Latham even has the authority to call a school an innovation school if the state does not recognize it as one!!

Notice on the Opening of the Washington Elementary School as a District Innovation School

The Lynn Public Schools is pleased to announce that on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 the Washington Elementary School located at 58 Blossom Street will once again open as a neighborhood school. The original Washington Community School ceased operation as a magnet school and was closed at the end of the school year in June of 2008. The building was rehabilitated and it was re-opened in September of 2008 as an alternative elementary school. In September, the students in that alternative program will be relocated to the former Fallon Elementary School located at 100 Robinson Street.

These moves also mark the inaugural step by the Lynn Public Schools to open an Innovation School in the district at the Washington Elementary School. The Innovation School will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.

For the 2012-2013 school year, the Washington Elementary School will operate with Kindergarten, grade one, grade two and grade three only. Grade four will be phased in for the 2013-2014 school year through promotion of the existing grade three students, and grade five will be similarly phased in for the 2014-2015 school year. From 2015 into the future, the Washington Elementary School will service children in kindergarten through grade 5.

The students that reside in the new Washington School district (see corresponding map) will be assigned to Washington Elementary per the schedule in the preceding paragraph. Families with children going into grades four and five at their current schools will not be moved. Children entering kindergarten and grades one, two, and three and currently in Connery or Cobbet and Harrington will be transferred to the Washington School if they live in the new district.

Some families will therefore have children in two different elementary schools. Because of the proximity of the schools to one another, we hope that those families will be able to adjust as needed.

The New Washington School District is addable as an Acrobat (PDF) document for downloading and printing below.

The Lynn Public School Department is excited to be opening the Washington Elementary School once again as a district school and as Lynn's first Innovation School. We will have an open house before school opens in September so that parents and new students will be able to visit the school and meet with the staff. The date of the open house will be posted on our website in August.
