DAYS OF OUR WORLD - ROBIN COULD

Now the EVIL QUEEN had two ladies in waiting in the court of NESOPOTAMIA. One of them, J-WAR of the North Shore had a large presence in the institution of the administration.

With the help of the much NEEDed SPECIAL forces she was able to secure another lady-in-waiting for the SMOOSH room.

MORAL OF THE STORY - EVERYONE THINKS THEIR OWN NEEDS ARE SPECIAL

  1. I was just quickly reviewing the 2013 $116 million dollar Lynn Public Schools budget that our school committee approved. If I am not mistaken (and I don't think I am) of the $116M, 81% goes to salaries, while only 19% goes to "non-salary" items. Among these salaries, most, if not all of the administrators make 6 figures.....every secretary makes at least $50,000 (except elementary school ones, which I believe make around $40,000) and the 4 secretaries for the superintendent and her deputies (yes, you heard it right....FOUR!!) all get paid $65,000, which is more than most, if not all of the teachers (many whom have a Master's Degree) ZERO dollars went to improving our deteriorating and hazardous school buildings because evidentally this is the responsibility of the Inspectional Services Department (Mr. Mike Donovan) and NOT the responsibility of the school department. Gee...I wonder why Lynn Public Schools is a failing school district and one of the WORST performing school districts in the state and CLOSE to actually becoming THE WORST school district in the state!!

    1. What do you actually plan to do to make sure that doesn't happen besides posting on this website? It's easy to find to fault much harder to take action to make positive changes.

    2. Well I first take action by having the pride and courage to actually state my name in all my correspondences and communication (which by the way go well beyond this blog to the Commissioner of the Dept.of Education, the Governor's office, the State House, and of course to our superintendent, mayor and school committee) And it was not, nor is it hard to do at all.

    3. Whatever - it was an honest inquiry into what you and others plan to do to make changes in the city. I too would like to see things done and would like to be involved in real (not online) life. Thank you for the snarkiness; I'll find another avenue.

For the record - some people have jobs that monitor their online presence which makes it hard to leave names on forums such as this.

    4. Anon 752 - once the school year starts you can check here for school committee meeting agendas:

      http://www.lynnschools.org/district_schoolcommittee.shtml#gpm1_3

There is generally an open mic session where you can voice your concers to the super and mayor. You may also want to look into your school's PTO. The school department website also lists the names and contact info for SC members if necessary for your particular situation.

    5. Anon 752.....I was not being snarky at all. If you truly want to be involved "in real life" you obviously cannot remain anonymous. My point was and is that your voice is much louder when you are not anonymous and people actually know who you are. Also, you have the constitutional right of freedom of speech. If however your employer is LPS, I can understand why you would be hesitant to leave your name for fear of retaliation by the extremely unprofessional people who run our school department (particularly Dr. Latham) but at the same time, if you want to really make positive changes, you have to start by having the courage to be known and heard.

    6. You have to consider that there's a difference between having an active 'online' presence versus a 'physical' presence. I have friends who work for various government agencies who need to have a minimal online presence due to the specific nature of their jobs. On other hand, there would be nothing preventing them from going to school committee meetings or calling their SC member personally and having their name attached to their comments.
