WHERE WILL YOU BE ON WHAT WILL BE A DEFINING MOMENT IN THE HISTORY OF EDUCATION IN LYNN?

On the night of APRIL 26, 2012 at 6 pm in the "Tiger's Den" at LVTI at 90 COMMERCIAL STREET a PUBLIC HEARING will be held on the decision NOT to post the SUPERINTENDENT'S position. With failing schools, the lacking of supplies but a GROWING ADMINISTRATION parents have banded together to voice their opinions and demand accountability from their SCHOOL COMMITTEE members.

Whether a parent, grandparent, or spinster, fifty cents of every tax dollar you pay to the CITY of LYNN is spent on EDUCATION and they are proposing to spend 68 MILLION DOLLARS real soon to build a new MARSHALL MIDDLE SCHOOL. So you see this decision this hearing is about concerns EVERYONE.

NEVER before have the public stood up to question a decision made by members of the LYNN SCHOOL COMMITTEE who were elected to represent the BEST INTEREST of our children. Come be part of the history of Lynn, the history of our children!

  1. This will be a defining moment for the school committee members.Parents and taxpayers all around the city are disgusted by the conditions of the schools and that the school committee outright refused to look for the best candidate for one of the most important positions in the city.Even if there is not a big turnout at this hearing, the voters in this city will remember this devastating decision when elections come up again in 2 years. Charlie Gallo in particular should be worried because he is the newest member. He definitely did not make a good political move by voting to keep a superintendent who is running one of the lowest districts in the state. However, even those long time members should be concerned about keeping their seats after this.

    1. It would be really nice if questions could be directed to committee members and they actually had to answer them. That would certainly make for a very entertaining night...watching and listening to members like Ford, Capano and Gallo try to answer or even handle random questions about our schools and district? They usually don't have a clue, which is why they resort to their infamous line of "Lynn is at or near the top of the urban districts" (AKA..We are the best of the worst) which has been used so many times by all of them and Dr. Latham that it is nauseating.

  2. What is nauseating is that you people try to compare Lynn to districts that don't have the same demographics. The DESE Commissioner ranks the urban districts for comparison, which makes sense, something that a FOOL can't comprehend. This is such a colossal waste of time!!! There is NO WAY that the SC votes to post the job.

    1. We are very well aware that the school committee still may not vote to post the position, but at the very least, this hearing has made the residents of Lynn more aware of our failing schools and district. We are also very well aware about the urban districts and how they are compared and that all districts in the state do not have the same demographics. However, if what you are trying to say is that Lynn is a failing district because we have diversity, then please let me educate you....Even the white kids who only speak english are failing the MCAS. Again, out of 297 districts in the state, Lynn is among the lowest performing 5% with 281 districts performing better than we are. I am pretty sure the reason for this is not just because we are a diverse district. If you are member of the administration, it is not surprising that you post the comments you do. However, I truly hope you are not a teacher! If you are, please take a good look in the mirror because YOU are a major contributing factor to our failing status, not the color of your students skin or their ethnic background. Lynn has many great educated teachers who are qualified to handle and communicate with the kids in our schools (you clearly are not among them) but we desperately need more. Also, I am very glad to see that name calling is "not your style" Again, I urge you to have just an ounce of courage and leave your name.

    2. I am sorry to hear about your stomach problems. What is truly upsetting is that we are not doing as well as we have been led to believe. The good Doctor may have doctored the data.

  3. First - the Commissioner's Urban districts have been mentioned here before. Acknowledging the demographics has not stopped the state from labeling schools in these districts Level 4 or failing. The expectations are the same - students have to do well on MCAS whether you like it or not. Lynn has seven Level 3 schools including 2 out of 3 middle schools that could easily join Connery & Harrington next year on that list.

Second- if this hearing is not something you're interested, don't attend. Period. If you're a member of the administration, have your I-POD ready so you can tune out parental concerns though the admins probably already do that without the use of a device.
