I would like to take this opportunity to humbly thank TIME magazine for naming me MAN OF THE YEAR and recognizing LYNN SCHOOL WATCH for spearheading a movement to bring about change in the way that LPS does business. Okay maybe they didn't ACTUALLY mention me SPECIFICALLY but they probably couldn't be sure they spell my name correctly.
Luckily this year they didn't pick some super smart person who would make me feel intellectually embarrassed. Instead they picked an "everyman" to inspire everyone to speak up when they come across something that the see as unjust like hiring a new DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT and other Central office personnel coating hundreds of thousands of dollars.
So, I didn't win the award. Remember I'm a poet. I think metaphorically, not literally.
who voted in favor of the new admin positions? Who voted against it?
ReplyDeleteHere is how the voting went way back last year, the position was actually approved but since the job posting was a few years old the mayor had it sent back to the subcommittee to tweak. Once there Coppola and Carrasco added the doctoral and princepalship requirements that would have precluded certain people from getting it, a less qualified person. Well, when it came back to the full committee,Capano, Spirito, and Ford balked at the new requirements. The Mayor being the smart politician she is said basically she smelled a political rat and she wasn't going to break the tie and tabled the motion so she did not have to weigh in or take a public stand.
ReplyDeleteMove the calender forward to last Thur. night and let's look at what changed. Well supposedly some changes in the state's SPED reimbursement policy was going to free up about $800,000 a year long term. This was Vinnie Spirito's last LSC meeting and no one knows for sure just which way Charlie Gallo will sway. The Mayor has to be feeling a little more comfortable with the recent city council elections. Also city council just approved the necessaty money for a feasability study for a NEW Marshall at I think, $750,000. Anyway when the building starts I think the city is going to have to come up with around $20 million dollars even with the generous funding rate we are getting from the SBA. With all of the schools in disrepair and no end in sight to the overcrowding problems, I think it was a bad time to add this position. ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE ARE RUMOURS THAT A CERTAIN CENTRAL OFFICE EMPLOYEE WAS TAGGED FOR IT BEFORE IT WAS BROUGHT UP LAST YEAR.
Do you mean a person from Admin who is not qualified for the job may be getting the job? Oh the horror. This has never happened in the history of LPS. Chuckle, chuckle
