I'M WRITING MY REP, HOW ABOUT YOU?

June 11, 2014
Dear Representative Fennel,

I want to both thank you for your recent efforts to help try and solve Lynn Public Schools chronic Net School Spending problems and to express my outrage at last night’s Lynn City Council exorbitant pay raises were passed at a time when the city is fiscal strapped. In my mind such irresponsible behavior is a slap in the face to you and all the taxpayers of not only Lynn but all taxpayers across the Commonwealth who are asked to subsidize our lack of fiscal restraint.

Because the move goes against the charter, I understand it involves a Home Rule petition and you will be asked to vote on it. I strongly urge you to vote AGAINST it. It is only fair.

Sincerely,

Stanley H. Wotring, Jr.

  1. The Lynn Public School (LPS) system is the biggest hustle around in the area. No one is held accountable for outcomes of our students, but they are better paid than other local productive public systems.

The budget can't be balanced because new home buyers will live in communities where the educational systems are responsive to needs of their children. The fiscal health of thriving communities is in direct correlation to the quality of school system. Lynn pays above average, and the return on investment just isn't there. Due to the LPS's lack of accountability at the top, sub-par performance and corners are cut seem to prevail and they rewarded with a raise; for what!

I know they want to blame the students for the performance problems - but they are not the ones getting good pay to figure out how to teach them.

Why throw more money at poor results? I was just looking at the Lynn School ratings on the Zillow Real Estate site, I am fairly certain the tax base is not going to get better. The LPS will always be cash strapped until things change in a major way!

    1. The "budget" problem ys a complicated one. Eerything you said, I agree with pretty much. Too much money is being spent on people that have little contact with students or parents. That being said, state law says that the city is shortchanging LPS. Still since thet misspend what they get, according to my way of thinking, I think if they get more it wull just increase the waste. Fundemental changes hae to be made.

  2. Hey! Hey! Don't ruin it for all of us! I want a raise too, retroactive to preconception.

When a child has parents that are illiterate, not only in the English language, but their own language how is it that you think that the child is teachable??? Further, when a student comes in WITHOUT a parent after they have immigrated from a country ALONE and with NO EDUCATION, how do you think that teachers should "figure out how to teach them"??? These kids have to test by state regs and the state doesn't care!! When you do the research and have a clue, post again! Until then stop being such a fool since you clearly have no idea what you are talking about!! You wouldn't last a day teaching in the LPS!!
