Lynn councilor at large candidates talk economic development
I am glad to see the Councilor-At -Large candidates take such an interest in our schools. About time!
HOWEVER.....,
it kinda seemed like the concentration was heavily focused on passage of the upcoming BOND for the buuilding of MARSHALL (don't forget the WOTRING WING) and the dire consequences if it fails.
FOLKS, I'm here to tell you even if it passes if we follow the MSBA timeline, we still have aa glooy forecast. We have TOO MANY old schools to just plod along along that path. Not too mention all those old buildings come with a cornucopia of enviromental problems that make disposal problematic.
What we need is another answer but we will NEVER find it unless we face the problem objectively.
Enrollment in the schools will continue to increase each year by hundreds. We are already facing a crisis because of this and the fact that Lynn officials failed to renovate and/or build new schools decades ago. Every one of the schools in this city will eventually reach its capacity limits, including using hallways, closets, basements, etc. as classrooms, and it will be physically impossible to fit any more students in the buildings. This time will come very soon, most likely within the next 2-5 years. Aside from this, the buildings themselves are deteriorating by the day and are already in deplorable condition. Many of them will probably be condemned within the next 2-5 years. This is a very serious issue and it should the #1 topic discussed at every political debate. The officials of this city better wake up and face facts very soon, because continuing to be dismissive or to ignore the poor condition of the schools will lead to disaster.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, I think. If the schools were residences they would never be allowed to house people in xuch a state.
