CLEO IS KEEPING THEM IN CHEQUE

An Education: LSC Q & A: Maria Carrasco

The LSC is very fortunate to have MARIA as a member because we as parents are fortunate to have her as a liason to the system )of course, we will be more fortunate when I am serving alongside her). She always speaks up for us parents and our concerns. She is probably the only LSC member that shows up to as more events than CHARLIE GALLO. Those two would show up for a dog fight in a school yard. She's my friend and part-time ride but I do what I do.

1). That is so true. It's hard to believe LYNN is a majority minority city and LPSor the LSC does not reflect that. Well when I get elected the DISABLED minority will be represented.

2). This was pretty much the pat political answer. We have problems which she identified correctly and we can not rest on our PERCEIVED laurals.

3). It is interesting that she perceives the limitations of the office. They are real. When elected I promise to push the envelope.

4). I agree with everything she said, especially the part about COMMUNITY SCHOOLS.

5). Thanks for your phone number!

  1. “3). It is interesting that she perceives the limitations of the office. They are real.”

Not really... What is more interesting is what she perceives incorrectly as the limitations of the office. Elected in 2007, and still complaining about a policy that does not exist, to illustrate:

Carrasco: “Remember, we have a policy that prohibits even me as a School Committee Member from visiting a school without the Superintendent's approval.”

Policy: “Individual School Committee members interested in visiting schools or classrooms will INFORM the Superintendent of such visits and make arrangements for visitations through the Principals of the various schools. Such visits will be regarded as informal expressions of interest in school affairs and not as "inspections" or visits for supervisory or administrative purposes. Official visits by committee members will be carried on only under committee authorization.”

    1. What is really INTERESTING is your limited way of expressing yourself. You do do an excellent job of copying and pasting but you do seem to lack originality. You fail to pull the pieces together.
You are right in that it is written there should be no restrictions on visiting schools - it is written....but I've been at meetings and it has seemed that the policies don't apply equally. It is also true that the most important job of a school committee member is choosing the SUPERINTENDENT.

    2. So what Ms. Carrasco stated is actually correct. School committee members DO need permission from the superintendent. Merely putting the word 'inform' in there in all caps does not change a thing, but nice try (not really)
