Last night there was a good old fashioned WITCH HUNT. Hey, is it CANNIBALISM if you hunt your own kind?
I have NEVER seen any HOME SCHOOLING parents come before the LSC to justify their teaching. I have even posted about it before.
Last night was different.
LAURA LECLAIR home schools her 5 children. She has done it for 15 years in PA. She has a 20 yr old son in college. She said she was told if she didn't attend last night's meeting, she wouldn't be allowed to home school. Mind you this has NEVER happened and there were three other families who weren't there last night and still got approved.
DR. LATHAM FLATLY DENIES THEY WERE REQUIRED TO ATTEND.
STILL.....
they were there and DR. LATHAM ASKED if thet would VOLUNTARILY provide a mid-year PORTFOLIO that to the best of my knowledge NO ONE ELSE has to provide.
COULD THIS BE BECAUSE BOTH PARENTS WERE DISABLED?
Now I didn't sat the D word but QUACK,QUACK!

ReplyDeleteLaura....Welcome to the nightmare I call Lynn Public Schools!! I am very sorry for the ordeal you went through, but unfortunately this is how LPS operates. Dr. Latham thinks she can do whatever she wants, whenever she wants. She does this because most parents get intimidated by her bullying and believe she has the authority to pull the stuff she does so they don't fight back. I am so happy to hear that you fought back and stood your ground!! I must admit I chuckled when I read she came to talk to you about a half hour later because the whole time I was reading your post I was thinking Dr. Latham is not out of the office, she is definitely in the building but she is refusing to see or speak to this parent like she always does. Dr. Latham and her staff do not care about the laws. They break them everyday. This is why LPS faces lawsuits against them and why many parents have lawyers. As for our school committee members....You are absolutley correct....most, if not all, of them are clueless about the laws. They typically have no idea what is going on until a parent brings up an issue or they read about an issue in the Lynn Item. I don't know if you were present for my speech at open mic, but I touched base on this subject and told the members that it concerned me that all of them actually thought the Washington School was an innovation school when it is not. The reason they thought that was because they had no idea about the procedures and process that need to be followed in order for a school to be an innovation school. Although, Dr. Latham still proclaimed that it was an innovation school simply because she considers it one. She is the bigggest contributing factor to why our schools and district are failing. She is extremely incompetent!!
ReplyDeleteI still haven't gotten my approval letter, here 3 weeks and 2 days down the road. I have called on several occasions. Then I was told I was approved by 90% only. OK, so I was approved and that was all good, but I didn't hear anyone at the meeting not agree, did you? I have a right to know who went against me and why? I have been told that the person who sends the letters is sick then she was in the hospital. I asked Dy Latham to give me a call, she did but I wasn't at the phone when she did. I called back early this week again, to have her call me..no reponse. I'm getting sick of this run around. I'm done, I'm calling my lawyer on Monday. I will tell him about the Federal privacy act which they violated, I will tell them about the mid-year meeting that by law I don't have to do. I'm just done with this school district. I homeschooled in PA for 12-13 years and NEVER had these problems. And PA is comsidered a harder state to homeschool in. SIGH...any advice is welcomed.

Very true, the school committee does not have a clue about laws or their role, yet they continue to get elected into office. no one has a child in LPS, so why care how they vote! I find every person on the board to be incompetent Lori!
