Let me state right up front, I ain’t making NO
allegations. Just going to point out a couple of UNDISPUTED facts. You can draw
your own conclusions.
FACT ONE:
PRINCIPAL CONSTANTINO of CLASSICAL HIGH SCHOOL testified
in favor of not posting the SUPERINTENDENTS contract thereby insuring that
DR.LATHAM’S contract would be extended.
PLUS
FACT TWO:
CARA CONSTANTINO, from MARBLEHEAD was hired as an
UNCERTIFIED SPED teacher at BREED this year. (Now I’m not saying they are
related, CONSTANTINO is a pretty common name or so I’m told.)
EQUALS
Well I’ll let you decide.
I have begun my research into this issue. As a parent, it is concerning to me that my child could be being taught by a teacher who is not certified to be teaching in that specific area. One could argue that these kids face more of a disadvantage than those being taught by someone who is certified in that area, especially special education. On the other hand, being certified doesn't necessarily make you a better teacher. I know there are some uncertified teachers who do a wonderful job, perhaps even a better job than some of the certified teachers. In any case, I do feel that every teacher should be certified in the area they are teaching. I was a bit taken back by your post that stated only 70% of LPS teachers are certified. If this is correct, it is alarming to me. Do we know why Ms. Constantino and others are not certified? Are they currently working on getting their certification? Are they certified in other areas?
ReplyDeleteI believe the 70% referred to new hires that were not certified. Per the DOE information for Lynn in 2010-11:
ReplyDelete% of Teachers Licensed in Teaching Assignment: 98.2
% of Core Academic Classes Taught by Teachers Who are Highly Qualified: 94.3
These numbers vary by individual school with 100% in each category at Aborn for example and 91.4/67.9 respectively at Fecteau-Leary at the other end of the spectrum.
Thank you for the clarification...those figures are much better! Do we have current data for 2012?
DeleteIt says for 2011-12 that 98.1% of teachers were licensed in their teaching assignment in Lynn. 15 of the schools had 100% licensed; the schools with the lowest percentages were Fecteau-Leary (92%) and Marshall (93.9%).
DeleteMy info comes from the list of new hires not given to the general public at last Thursday's LSC meeting.
ReplyDeleteStan...Does the list you have contain all and only the names of new hires for this school year 2012-2013? How many new hires are there and how many are certified in the area they were hired?
DeleteI think 26 out of 136 are not certified in their area, about half of those are in SPED.
DeleteThis blog certainly plays loose with the facts. You also know how to throw the accusations around without looking into them first, naming names with wanton abandon. Should anyone want to sue you for slander, they need only read your blog. Should increase your credibility with the school department or anyone else who is reading. Go ahead and make your silly prune jokes.
ReplyDeleteI don't have to make any silly prune jokes, you took care of that. I CLEARLY identify what is fact, it's just that some MAY feel uncomfortable with the truth.
