A CLASSICAL MOVE

Now, I've been told of a CERTIFIED foreign language teacher from HARVARD who interviewed at BREED. He didn't get the job.

WHILE.....,

we hired CORRADO RUSSO for FOREIGN LANGUAGE at CLASSICAL (there's that RAM pattern again) and SANDRA NOACK for FOREIGN LANGUAGE at CLASSICAL (a troubling trend, perhaps?)

I guess the phone lines between BREED and CLASSICAL were down.

  1. In my opinion, foreign language should not be taught at the middle school level. I believe there are more important classes that could be taught in its place. Four year colleges and universities don't care if you took a foreign language in middle school, they only care if you took one in high school and even this is ridiculous. (I know this is not the point you were trying to make with your post)

    1. Students already take math, science, social studies, English and an elective or electives in middle school - what class(es) do you think that they should take in place of foreign language in middle school?

I took Latin in high school and it helped me tremendously with the SAT and vocabulary.

    2. A composition class for sure. Even though their English class touches base on writing, it is quite disturbing how many kids cannot write a paper or do not even know how to do a research paper when they reach or even graduate high school.

    3. I agree but it doesn't have to be either/or (either foreign language or composition). In Saugus, for example, they mentioned in the Item that they learn MLA citation in the 6th grade, but also have access to foreign languages.

Also, I'm not sure what it's like at all the schools but my former history teacher at LEHS absolutely teaches research papers as part of the curriculum:

Not sure what the standard is by school/grade level/subject.

  2. I forgot to ADD that the two hired at CLASSICAL are UNCERTIFIED.
