MOVING AHEAD ON LEAVING BEHIND

LPS, you better jump on this!

  1. "...give states the freedom to set their own student-achievement goals, and design their own interventions for failing schools...The purpose is not to give a reprieve from accountability. But rather to unleash innovation."

Unfortunately that wont happen here. How long has our SPED department been doing a bad job? Their answer was to fire Holly Shorten and not replace Deb Stone for a year and a half. If by innovation they mean 'do worse' then Lynn will be at the top of that list!

  2. How long have we had NCLB? Look at the condition of our SPED Department but all of our schools. Obviously it is not working. All we're are doingis learning to fail and we are getting pretty good at that. Who's going to be the last one standing when the money runs out?

  3. We were failing before NCLB. Without them LPS will be left to police themselves. How has that worked in the past.

I'm a fan of The Watchmen and I think a poignant moment in both the book and the movie was the when a tagger was spray painting "Who watches the Watchmen?" Who will watch LPS? Because the SC has done a crap job, the mayor has done a crap job, the city council has done a crap job and the people have done a crap job. The only body I've seen step in to make things better are the some people who handed Connery and Harrington $ for failing. And I think Dolores had it right, I wish the rest of the schools in Lynn could look like Connery and Harrington.

  4. We need to stop looking for excuses in LPS. All of the schools should look like Connery and Harrington. We should not have to wait for them to be failing. I agree with Melissa. I was at the debate and feel that Ms.Defilippo was right on target. She gets my vote for telling us the truth, the way it really is in Lynn. I hope people in Lynn vote her in.
