I warned my BFF about drinking too much KOOL-AID. At the very least it will rot your teeth. Suddenly KIPP's numbers aren't so statistically superior. I heard this year they didn't make AYP. So we lost a priceless view and are putting a historic landmark in jeopardy so that when the school fails some developer can turn the empty school building into lavish apartments, all built with money that should have went to LPS.
Quick does someone know CPR?
Pity. The mayor should have done more and listened to the residents when they went to her for help.

ReplyDeleteIf Aborn is the only Lynn school to make AYP then 5% of Lynn schools made it. I would like to know if those kind of stats are available for other cities, and for the whole state. What about cities that are comparable to Lynn? How are they doing?
ReplyDeleteRICK STARBARD had a list of middle schools across the state who didn't make it. Maybe I'll did it up later. Lynn is not alone, we are in GOOD company if by GOOD we really meean BAD.

I could post them in a comment but I think they deserve their own article. Some pretty interesting information.
ReplyDeleteJust a little teaser: Aborn was not the only school to make AYP. And KIPP still rocks, Stanley.
ReplyDeleteKIPP is the only middle school to not mandated to offer Supplemental Educational Services, which is laymen is '35 hours of tutoring'. KIPP is the only middle school to obtain the Performance Rating of 'High' in both English and Math. KIPP also has the highest attendance rates in ALL of Lynn and with MCAS CPI scores at 86.2 in ELA and 82.1 in Math, I'll take that. And so would many others in Lynn if there wasn't a lottery and limited space....
Oh and I'm going to check into Rick's claim that other middle schools in the affluent towns surrounding Lynn are also doing poorly and thus that is a great reason to do away with NCLB.
Swampscott Middle made AYP. Lynnfield Middle made AYP. Peabody Middle (Higgins Middle) made AYP in ELA but not Math. Marblehead Middle made AYP. Middleton's schools made AYP. So what schools was Rick talking about?

What I find interesting, with the exception of Callahan and Lynn Woods swapping spots, the top performing half of the schools stays the top half in both ELA and Math. And if Connery, Harrington and Washington are our lowest performing schools with Washington the absolute lowest performing - Where is Washington's money?
