KIPP TO FACE DOE AUDIT
Located on page A7 of the Sept. 27, 2011 issue of the LYNN ITEM is an announcement that KIPP Academy of Lynn will be undergoing 3 separate reviews. The way I read it, this is part of a standard six-year review. The review will occur during the week of Oct. 17th. A final report will be on the DOE website. I urge you to consult the ITEM for more details. Guess what KIPP, it's report card time!

I'm going to be very adult about this. >p
ReplyDeleteAnd when they ace their report card I'm going to rub it in then too.
Hopefully their report card doesn't say the same as their AYP.
ReplyDeleteI hope it does. Do you think I made those AYP number up? KIPP has the highest MATH AYP scores, beating Pickering by about 10 points and they only lag behind Pickering .04 points in ELA.

ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I couldn't post to your blog. Here's what I was trying to post: It would be nice if we could take Anna Breen's advice and stop focusing on the differences between KIPP and Breed/Pickering/Marshall. I'm not sure it gets us anywhere unless it serves as a starting point for specific solutions. OK, KIPP has better math scores than the other Lynn middle schools. What specific system/standards/materials are they using and could this be implemented in the other schools? Is HOW they teach math substantially different than what is currently done in LPS? Would this math curriculum work for high percentages of special ed, LEP, ELL, etc.? Would we need funding or more/different professional development in order to implement such changes? These are the kinds of questions we should be asking and where we should put our focus
Clleo, you have a good point - we need not worry so much what we are doing wrong but worry more on what to do right.
