BULLY ON THE BACKASH!

GUESS WHAT? They raise a good point BUT I am NOT optimistic that the MOOD of the people who control the UNDERFUNDING that exists are going to have an epiphany.

  1. This group is a joke. Who are these people anyways? They are never at a single school event showing support of the students and their accomplishment and I have never seen them at a single school committee or city coucil meeting. They only come out whenever there is an issue pertaining to immigrants. They claim to be the voice of all students, but they really only mean immigrant students, especially illegal ones. They make every issue an immigration issue and I am so sick of listening to their claims that the rest of us are anti immigrant. They supposedly are a parents group that has been around for years, but barely any parents in the city even know who they are. They are not interested in the education of our all our students. If they were, they would be working with the city and school officials to stop the continued influx of these illegal immigrants and refugees or at the very least they would be holding a rally to fight for more state and federal funding for Lynn so we can meet the many needs of these kids. They would know our schools are bursting at the seams and millions are being taken away from essential resources and services that would benefit all students so they can be redirected and spent on resources and services provided to this selected group of students.

  2. Do you think this group could have put more of a spin on the situation? No one participated in an anti immigration anything. I am not a fan of Mayor Kennedy but she merely stated the facts about what is happening in this city and the schools. These illegal immigrants (the group seems to conveniently leave out that word and fact that these kids are illegal) come to the city by the hundreds every year. The city and school department spend millions of dollars just on this one group of people. More staff needs to be hired, more resources are needed, and more services need to be provided. All of these require money and lots of it. Money that has to be taken away from other areas and from resources and services that could benefit the entire student body, rather than just a selected group. This group is not fooling anyone. They do not care about the schools being fully funded. If they did,we would have seen and heard from them during any one of the dozens of meetings, public hearings and newspaper articles that have addressed the issue. They are using the funding issue as an excuse to hold a pro-immigrant rally. They are not fooling anyone. How many immigrant parents will be there holding signs about education who have never spoken to or even know who their child's teacher is and who have never attended a single open house or other school event? I agree,if an equal and quality education for "ALL" was really what this group was interested in,they would be fighting to end the uncontrollable influx of illegal children which are putting a huge burden on our city and schools, particularly our classrooms.

    1. Funny though, your arguements could just as easily be made if we substituted "SPED" for immigrants. A large amount of money spent on a disproportionately small segment of the entire population. We have to be careful when singling out ANY segment of the population.

    2. SPED students do not arrive by the hundreds, almost thousands every year. If they did, this too would be a cause for concern.

    3. LOL, are you sure? LSC member RICK STARBARD who is out in front if not leading the charge on this issue has stated several times at meetings that just one segment of the SPED population, those on outside placement, LPS spends 1/10th of the budget on that population. The entire SPED population accounts for about a quarter of ALL students. The UNNACCOMPANIED MINOR group pales by comparison..Would you like to rephrase your answer?

    4. How many of those 25% are immigrant students? My guess is quite a few. As has already been mentioned several times, the issue is not just the hundreds of unaccompanied minors coming in each year. It is this group on top of the hundreds or even thousands of other immigrants coming in also.

    5. Lucky for you I am going to stop responding to your comments cause you just keep appearing more and more ignorant.

  3. Only about 16% of students are SPED not 25%

    1. Thank you my MATH is none too good. That makes it a MUCH smaller problem, Just curious though how do those numbers compare with the UNACCOMPANIED MINOR totals?

  4. I was not comparing the two. I was simply providing accurate figures. However, based on the information I have been reading, the issues the city and schools are facing are not due to only unaccompanied minors. They are due to the influx of hundreds, if not thousands of immigrants in general coming to the city and enrolling in the schools each year. These numbers continue to rise every single year and the city and schools just cannot accommodate them anymore without help from the state and federal governments. This is a very basic fact which no one can disprove, but rather choose to ignore.

  5. I will agree that we should be getting federal help on this but I think there is too MUCH talk about the problem and not much work on a solution.

  6. It's funny you say that Stan, because the mayor and super are the only ones working on a solution and they are getting a bunch of slack from everyone including you.

    1. Solution? The comments to the media by the mayor and super were disgusting blaming immigrants. Does the mayor and super need a course in language skills to see what they said wrong?

    2. You sir, Mr A137, are the funny one. First they are NOT really working on solutions unless whining counts.. Yes we need we need help but proactive solutions not retelling problems past.

As for GIVING SLACK, uh I give FLACK not SLACK.

  7. It looks like an education is exactly what some of these people need. They cannot even spell the words correctly on their banner. I hope they proofread the banners and signs they will be holding high at their PRO-IMMIGRATION rally. Hysterical!
