Latham: Space a challenge
On this we can agree. Where we disagree is on the solution. I am not convinced the answer is to throw good money after bad. That good money comes in the amount of $92 MILLION DOLLARS for a NEW MARSHALL. It is not that that is too much money, it's a lot but what better place to spend it than on the education of our future? Maybe we should spend more and don't worry you will.
In fact the EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER is going to end up costing a few million for most likely a temporary fix for warehousing some of those same kids that will be filling that new school.
We keep trying to solve tomorrow's problems with yesterday's solutions. The answers we need have fallen in our laps if we just remove the blinders from our eyes. You would think those MATH people would be ecstatic because the world seems to have gone digital with discrete identifiable pieces of data. Perhaps those blinders are the failure to appreciate the poetry of application.

What is your solution to this issue?
ReplyDeleteI would have rented space for this year and consolidated Bennett Street like they did, That opens up Commercial Street and Broad Street for some kind of something but where students could walk. Fallon is terribly underutilized. Something better could have been done with redistricting. The Washington School is growing. Bottom line I would never agree that it is okay or even safe to spend $27,000 to send long buses full of 40 5 yr olds across town. Hey for their sake I hope I;m proven wrong and I won;t be afraid to admit it. You have to be wrong to learn or be an awful lucky guesser.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the new classrooms? They are clean and bright and new. The students have a separate cafeteria space too. Every effort is being made to make this a success, I hope it goes well.
