This PILOT PROGRAM stems from an attempt to implement COLORADO'S model of the WRAP-AROUND program that originated in ARIZONA. When this was first discussed and presented by DR. WU at a LSC meeting last year, I believe the THREE meetings were supposed to replace the TRADITIONAL OPEN HOUSE.
The cost for this program is VERY HIGH but is being paid for through the RACE TO THE TOP MONEY and unless the grant is renewed, LPS will have to come up with the money to pat for it in the future.
HERE IS THE LETTER:
ReplyDeleteThe meetings will not replace the usual open houses, at least not this year because it is a pilot program and not all teachers or students will be participating. This program sounds very positive and I am looking forward to seeinf what it is all about. As far as costs go, if there are positive results from this pilot program, I would rather see money spent on something like this, than on the several other wasteful ways LPS spends money.
You are correct in that this year the regular meetings will not be replace however the plan going forward does not call for both. The expense for it is paid for this year out of the RTTP grant and unless reneweed somehow this is the last year of, Last year they were glowing over a TENNESSEE model, Also you are right LPS does waste a lot of money and it would be nice if they could at least waste it on parents and students instead of car leases and salaries for duplicate administrators.
