IN A LITTLE MORE THAN A MONTH APRIL LEARNS PROOF OF THE POWER OF PARENTS

April Isabelle Ordonez posted on Lynn School Watch's timeline"A little tidbit that I'm sure you'll enjoy. Sewell is one of the schools that is participating in the APPT pilot. The first parent teacher team meeting was September 24th and 25th where parents of 1st graders learned sight word games to play with their child at home, and parents of 2nd graders learned about DIBELS and what they can do at home to help their child. On Sewell's weekly newsletter Principal Mallett stated the following:
_______________________________________________________
Academic Parent Teacher Teams Update (APTT):
Note the alarming student achievement level comparisons between the families who attended and the families who did not attend the first meeting.

Grade 1 Sight Words:
Average student score among families who attended APTT: 62
Average student score among families who did not attend: 43.4

Grade 2 DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency:
Average student score among families who attended APTT: 73.7
Average student score among families who did not attend: 61.5

If that's not proof that parental involvement at home isn't important, then I don't know what is! And giving the parents the tools and knowledge they need is key!"
