Can someone explain to me how we pay someone in the 6 K neighborhood as a COMPLIANCE OFFICER yet we end up having to sign a THREE PAGE AGREEMENT with the OFFICE OF CIVIL RIGHTS regarding TRANSLATION.

I have been asking myself that same question since I saw the salaries in the Item. In fact, I am baffled by quite a few of the salaries that many positions are paid. It is absolutely mind boggling!! I don't know exactly what the compliance officer's position entails, but I do know Dr. Latham mentioned her by name at a recent school committee meeting when she adamantly proclaimed that LPS was most definitely in compliance (and even went above and beyond what is required) when it came to interpretation and translation services. I have researched and pursued 3 issues over the past several months and I have discovered that LPS was not in compliance in all 3 cases (The mentioned civil rights issue regarding interpretation and translation, the distribution of the state report cards for the schools and district, and the school councils) I have also come across past DESE reports of LPS which also showed non-compliance or partial compliance in several areas. I am pretty sure I even posted some of them.
