CRUCIAL FOR A CANDIDATE

Someone responded to my musings on mayoral candidates that we need a mayor with a business acumen, one who will create an enviroment where business will want to locate in LYNN thus creating a large enough tax base that will generate more money for the schools and all our problems will be solved.

To that response, I say "Whoa! Wait a minute let's look at this a minute".

LPS will always be about half the city's budget. No one business or even two or three or ten are going to remotely compare. Half of any taxes they generate go to the schools and then it is leveraged to get a much larger reimbursement from the state.

On top of that, LPS will hold the children of the employees from each and every business as a hostage to it's education.

Since the mayor AUTOMATICALLY serves as chairperson of the LSC, their stance on education has to be the single most important qualification that they possess.

UNLESS OF COURSE, WE NEED THEM TO JUMP INTO THE RING OR YOU KNOW OF A PROJECT THAT NEEDS MANAGED.

  1. Ageed! I would not vote for Phelan or Kennedy simply because they both support our current superintendent and they both think it's OK to have failing and under-performing schools and to have one of the worst school districts in the state. In fact, LPS only needs to drop 15 more places, then we will be THE WORST district in the entire state! Not something I would be proud of if I were superintendent or mayor!

    1. I agree with Lori on this. Phelan signed a letter supporting the current superintendent, without ever looking into our concerns or listening to the other side. Kennedy cast the deciding vote, effectively consigning the children of the city 3 more years of not being the first priority. We need to remember this when it comes time to vote! Our children are our most valuable resource. Kennedy and Phelan dropped the ball for our kids!

  2. I agree witht Sue's assessment BUT I want to point out one think. As of yet, we are still not chained to three more years because a contract has NOT been signed stil.

  3. Kennedy OUT. She never VOTES for the children.
Cahill has been mentioned, he is part of the Gallo do nothing team. They talk alot but do nothing. Also a big Lynn Democratic party control people. They DO NOT think for themselves.
Phelan....maybe you only option. He can handle the pressure and VOTES independently. Although, if we as parents get to him and let him know and understand the importance of a united group of parents/families for our children in LPS....we may get somewhere with him. It is true he was part of the letter, however, being MAYOR maybe be more important to him than protecting others...just saying....strick while the iron is hot!!!!
