A NIGHT AT THE IMPROV

Jon Levitz, formerly of SNL fame made a name for himself playing a character that was able to almost seamlessly shift from one truth to a more convenient new truth.

Following is a sequence of e mails whereby fellow parent LORI D'AMICO ponders the validity of a procedural move by acting LSC chair PATTI CAPANO in "suspending the rules" to allow non-Lynn residents to speak.

FIRST....

Ms. Capano made a motion to “suspend the rules” in order to allow principals to speak. The motion carried. Our Policy Manual is available on the school web site. The section that deals with governance is Section B.

THEN....

I know a discussion was lead by Ms. Capano about allowing others to speak to which those at the table did not object. Whether there was actually a suspension vote or not maybe a conversation I suspect, since the open mike is not literally a school committee meeting.
Unfortunately we do not record open mike sessions therefore I can’t further verify what was intent vs. literal. I do believe that the whole matter of open mike rules will be updated in an official way a the meeting this week. I’m going to attempt to e-mail you the section of the policy manual that you are interested in as I conclude this one.

Now I am not going to say anything. I'll let you draw your own conclusion. Who does that remind you of?

Oh, I don't know.......,

MAYBE,

SATAN.

Oh no, that's another character.

  1. I also asked the question, "If open mic is not literally a school committee meeting, how then did Mrs. Capano, a school committee member, waive the open mic residency requirement?" I did not, nor do I expect a response. I typically stop getting responses from Dr. Latham, her staff and some of our school committee members whenever my questions get too challenging.

  2. You are absolutely right. Either open mike is part of the school committee meeting and follows its rules or it's not part of the school committee meeting which means: any thing goes.

I think if Mr. Iarrobino had spoken with either Rick, Maria or Donna - they all would have objected. I personally spoke with Donna and Rick that night and know they both would have objected.

If the school committee members are under the impression that open mike is not a part of the regular meeting then they couldn't object. If they are under the impression that open mike is part of the school committee meeting then, my guess is, no one objected because the motion was never seconded, never opened for discussion, and never voted on. There was no motion thus there was nothing to object to.

The short of the long is that Gotta Go Capano, on her own or with help from 90 Commercial, decided to allow the principals to speak because they would (be stupid not to) speak in favor of the woman who has power over their jobs.

And now they are scrambling to cover it up. Well I call b.s. The stenographer takes excellent short hand, let ask her if she has notes from the last meeting.

Let's turn 'em all in to the Attorney General's office and the State Ethics Commission and let them sort this out. If they're innocent, they'll have nothing to worry about. Right?

  3. Charlie Gallo and John Ford would have voted with Pat Capano and as usual the Mayor was late and not there for the session. Therefore, what happens in a draw with a 3 to 3 vote?

I actually think the principals had no pull in the final vote - Carrasco, Starbard, Coppola voted against as they planned and the others had their decision prior to the meeting also. The Mayor never heard the principals and had her decision before the meeting.

    1. You may be correct, but the issue is the fact that Patti Capano took it upon herself to waive the residency requirement at her own discretion and for those who wanted to speak in support of Dr. Latham. Had those non-residents wanted to speak against Dr. Latham, would Patti Capano still have waived the requirement? Something to think about!!

  4. Lori & Melissa,
You are right on point. Also, the open mic was the brain storm of Maria Carrasscco. Why is it that she did NOT defend her own baby. She should have OBJECTED to Patti's motion and why didnot Donna and Rick do it.. This is ALL a game. It was voted on years ago and now it is not being recorded...WTF. Capano,Ford,Gallo and Mayor are in the row boat together. It will be interested to see who throws who out of the row boat first! My guess is Charlie will be tossed first..It seems that the 4th vote will foavor be the Mayor going with Capano,Ford,Gallo....she is afraid to stand up. She had us all fooled! She is worse than Clancy. BTW...all are Clancy people in cluding Latham. Wake up people!

    1. Sorry, but I don't remember a motion to object to. I think it was all Capano
