The post sold the building and the land it sat on to the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) Academy charter school.
"The allegation is that the majority of the money was taken from the proceeds of the sale," Gainey said Friday.

Some people got to have some questions now. My problem with charter schools has never been with philosophy but with the funding mechanism and one of my fears has evidently come to fruition here. Although KIPP does not necessarily have any culpability here at the bare minimum their image will be tarnished.
That is the risk that is taken when you mingle private with public funds. Back a couple of years ago when I was working with the HIGHLANDS COALITION who was working to block the sale, I repeatedly told our lawyer to go to the Adjunct General of the VFW in Boston over this. I don't remember that she ever did an now KIPP's attorney's work in her law firm.
Had she followed through with that contact we wouldn't be at the ugly place we are today.
Wait the guy put the non profit check in a personal bank account. He as told at the bank not todo it but did anyway....how is KIPP liable in any way???? If I give you a check and you have legal authority' to accept and sign it...how can I be liable for what you do with it?
ReplyDeleteKipp's lawyer is in a network with the lawyer the community hired to sue KiPp. The community lawyer backed out, leaving them hanging at the last stop. This the AG would be interested in. Who from VFW had the right to sell the property?

DeleteI remember that VFW being an old ugly building and the land around not be kept up - trash and old pipes in the back. Very soon you will have a school and field there for children to learn and enjoy. How is it KIPP's fault that VFW guy is a thief? KIPP will be an asset to the Highlands I am sure
ReplyDeleteKipp took away beautiful open space and views. They create a nuisance of sound and traffic. I want to move, but this has been by home for years. Kipp ignored our concerns.
