A small victory for parents was had tonight. I warned the LSC tonight during open-mike that the request for executive session to discuss contract negotiations for the superintendent was a bit premature given I had turned in our petition requesting a public hearing over the renewal of the superintendent's contract. Nobody responded then, I guess they are not supposed to but probably thought they wouldn't have to.
However when the agenda got around to the request for executive session came around, our Honorable Mayor tabled the request, acknowledging there was a petition and pending certification. She read from the city charter citing chapter and verse the procedure that must be followed.
Because of the tabling around the following amounts of monies were not spent tonight; $184,000 for a superintendent with another $100,0000 in Conf. Secretaries (2) and probably another $260,000 for two Deputies each with their own Confidential Secretary at 50K for a total of $100,000. That all adds up to be in the neighborhood of $650,000. I won't even talk about car allowances.
All in all it was a pretty good night. Score one for poetry. It may end up being a short-lived success but it was a success at least tonight.
