EMBARRASED INTO ACTION

After the mother of the child who's one-on-one has been playing the "Now you see him, now you don't game" spoke her piece (my BFF was stuck in traffic), our MOST HONOURABLE MAYOR directed DR> LATHAM to speak to the mother in private.

SO.....

After some tears about not needing to go public and assurances to the parent that she could "come to me", the situation was supposedly successfully resolved. Not before her child had been suspended for three days because with no aide was available.

AFTER....

A few points of Special Education law were tossed around, DR. LATHAM assured her that she had already signed off on this and not to worry. A broken record must have been playing because I've heard that song before.

  1. You know what irks me the most about all of this? That Latham had to "sign off" on this. Doesn't anyone realize that a 1:1 aide was in the child's IEP for over a year? Latham had to sign off on what? Repeatedly taking the aide away? Denying the child FAPE? Reinstating the aide that the mother said Latham was responsible for taking away?

You hit the nail on the head. Embarrassed into action. Well at least now we know a formula that works. If you have an issue that isn't being resolved and every administrator is pointing fingers at every other administrator, take it to the school committee and call the offender out on the carpet.

  2. So right Melissa! We need to educate people in Lynn and the school committee members about IEP's. They are a legal and binding contract and LPS violates them daily!
Unfortunately, unless they have a child with a disability or a family member, they will never care or understand the way we do!
ONE PISSED OFF PARENT IN LYNN.

  3. Thanks Stanley!
Sorry, but we have been thru plenty, thanks to the parade of idiots working for LPS.
Everytime we have an IEP meeting, they either cancel or do not have the paperwork, or send JANE LAVOIE. So wrong! We are not attorney's. We are parents fighting for our child's education. They make us feel like we are the enemy. We need help, we do not want to fight, But they started this battled years ago and I am looking forward to the day, they ALL go down. People need to be arrested and held accountable in this city. We need a true investigation.
