WE NEED TO TALK!

WATCH watcher LORI was incensed by what happened the NIGHT SPED WAS RAIDED and did something about it. She wrote to JAY SULLIVAN, SCHOOL BUSINESS SERVICES, MA DOE.

And of course MR. JAY toed the party line and said supporting words about being sure the LSC knows the rules and in so many words said, "DON'T WORRY YOUR PRETTY LITTLE HEAD". They were perfectly with in their rights as a duly elected body to spend the extra funds generated from the increased reinforcement schedule however they see fit.

WERE THEY NOW?

Below is an excerpt from the latest response LUSCIOUS LORI (she does have that head you know) got back:

They had received higher than budgeted special education reimbursements, and they then used those reimbursements to pay for tuitions originally planned to be paid from the local budget (an acceptable use of circuit breaker funds).

EXCUSE ME!

I went to all the budget meetings and I don't remember any of those PILFERED POSITIONS being PAID FOR, much less created. I wonder if the term FUZZY MATH would be appropriate here?

I just have two words to say: COMPLIANCE OFFICER.

  1. I received a very similar email from him:

Special Education Circuit Breaker funds can only be used for services that generated reimbursements (Special Education Instructional and Tuition Costs).

What the School Committee can do is charge special education costs to the Circuit Breaker account that had been originally budgeted from the local School Committee appropriation. By doing this, it frees up local funds to spend as the School Committee wishes.

It is my understanding that the committee reduced the school committee budget for special education tuitions deciding to pay those tuitions from the Special Education Reimbursement (Circuit Breaker) account. That action by the committee freed up funds in the school committee budget that it could use to pay for newly hired staff.

  3. Can you please realize that sometimes you're wrong. How many letters and opinions do you need ? Or do you really think everybody in a conspiracy and purposely work against the students of LPS???
