PUT ONE OF THOSE CONTRACTS OUT ON ME

Here we go! Our Mayor called last night's meeting to start a dialogue, to start taking a hard look at the budget. Time to start going over it with a fine tooth combs, you know to start to darn the holes in our pockets. Normally bills come across her desk and she just blindly signs them.

HOWEVER.....

Her frustration reached a climax when faced with two separate $800 a day for 32 days bills for two different people to the SAME address. These consultants work with teachers who work with other teachers in some kind of MENTORING relationship. It's all about accreditation and PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (PD-DON'T GET IT CONFUSED WITH PAYDAY).

The funny thing is services have been rendered since September but the contract has never been signed or brought to any body's serious attention until NOW. DR.S LATHAM and WARY informed us that after hearing wind of this upcoming discussion these consultants (who are retired LPS teachers) have suspended services.

Now are we not only on the hook for services already rendered, DR. Wary was crying that now we are going to have to send money back to the state because we don't have these consultants anymore.

THIS IS WHY I'M A POET!

  1. Any more news on the circuit breaker reimbursement issue?

If the state determines that this $800,000 should not have been spent on salaries and LPS is forced to leave that money in the SPED account, where does Dr. Latham and her staff plan on getting (or taking) $800,000 to pay for the salaries of the new positions she has already hired for? This would not be the first time LPS has inappropriately used state funds and have had to rectify the situation (which of course costs more money which of course is taken away from our kids and schools)

For example, it is my understanding that Fallon School is not being reopened as an attempt to help and improve our district, as Dr. Latham and her administration would have us believe. I heard (which may or may not be accurate) that she pretty much was forced to reopen it, otherwise reimburse MBSA because it should not have been closed as it was in the first place??? Something to definitely look into??

  2. No talk of CIRCUIT BREAKERS last night, just BLOWING FUSES about wasteful spending. I have hear such rumours and rumblings about FALLON SCHOOL too. NOTHING VERIFIABLE.

  3. Isn't Fallon School going to be used to house the Welcoming program currently in operation at the former Washington School? The overcrowding at Connery and Cobbet needs to be alleviated by the re-opening of Washington as a neighborhood school with a new title to make it look good.

  4. yes! I think during the debate at ford, starbbard said that the fallon and washington schools were opening!!!!
He has been on the school comm for two years and saying the same thing. what's up with that! they are all giving us lip service. nothing is going to change with this sc in place. it will be all fighting and no good outcomes for our children. that is why more middle class families (what is left of them) are moving out of lynn. we are next!

  5. Anon 810, I believe your anger is well justified it just needs to be refocused on the real obstructionists to positive educational change. It all starts at the top.
