PAC PUTS OUT

At last night's LSC meeting SHAWN TARASUIK, a PAC board member and soon to be retired NAVY SEAL put out an invitation to all the LSC members to attend the PAC meetings and work with us to resolve all of the complicated and costly problems. After all, they are parents too. EXCEPT FOR CHARLIE BUT HE IS YOUNG YET, DON'T LET THE LACK OF HAIR FOOL YOU!

PAC meets on the first and third Monday night at 7 pm. We are moving to FORD SCHOOL to have our meetings though. We think it's just better to fight your battles on the front line.

  1. Stanley...My child does not receive special education services, so I really do not know too much about what takes place at the PAC meetings or what goes on in the special education department (other than what I read or hear about) So far, I have only heard terrible things about our SPED department and the people who run it. I have heard there are or have been a number of lawsuits against LPS for not following the special education laws. It also sounds like LPS has a habit of not providing all the appropriate and needed services they should be to every child in special education. For example, the parent who spoke at the school committee meeting on Jan. 12. My question is this.....Is there anyone outside of LPS that is responsible for monitoring and auditing our SPED department? (And I don't mean The Future's Healthcare LLC) Also, according to the DOE, "In addition to the regular circuit breaker reimbursements, the "extraordinary relief" program provides up to $5 million to help districts experiencing a significant increase in their special education costs. Under this program, districts may file an additional claim form in February for the current year's estimated expenses. If the expenses have increased by 25 percent or more over the prior fiscal year, then the district will be eligible for an additional extraordinary relief payment to help fund the increase." Does anyone know if Dr. Latham plans on filing next month to receive these additional millions that she can then use at her discretion?
