LOOK OUT LATHAM IS LEADING
At the HIGHLANDS COALITION meeting last night, LSC member RICK STARBARD told me about Monday night's PAC meeting, In attendance was none other than DR. LATHAM and she came baring translation devices. Thank you DR. LATHAM, GOOD JOB. Now I won't have to come up with a silly poem..

That is good news! However, I would be more impressed if Dr. Latham and our school committee took some initiative to ensure that all parents in the school district had access to interpretation services when needed. This may actually enable parents with limited English proficiency to communicate with their children's teachers and be involved in their children's education. I believe LPS is required by law to have a formal written policy regarding these services. There are also many other legal requirements that I believe LPS does not follow. However, I will leave it up to the appropriate state and federal agencies to decide. Here is a link to some information about LEP and the legal requirements.
