In this year's budget around $10,000,000 will be budgeted for out of district placements because of out of district placements! Since that number does not include transportation costs, the price tag is sure to go higher.
It's hard to comprehend as big as LPS is that we are not capable of serving our own.
Here's a little food for thought -
Isn't that more than we lose from those dreaded CHARTER SCHOOLS?
Plus I believe we probably serve about the same number of UNACCOMPANIED MINORS for a FRACTION of the cost.
Like I said, no mention of these costs or the $8 plus million the city has shorted the schools. All we ever hear about is the public funding that goes to public, yes public, charter schools.
