Dr. Latham presided over an unexpectedly sparse turnout for the first public forum for a new PICKERING. Only it's probably not going to be just a new PICKERING. MSBA gave initial approval for a 1660 person new middle school to help remedy the growing student
population particularly the busting of the seems at BREED.
It is currently about 33% above capacity. All of the extras in education that keeps kids coming to back to school has been lost at BREED due to the need to jam kids in limited classrooms. DR. LATHAM has consisted beat the drum on the impotance of those non core classes and didn't miss an opportunity to show off the NEW MARSHALL and what is available there.
It is hoped that by possibly building on to BREED or much more likely building a FOURTH middle school in Lynn making it possible to build a smaller new PICKERING. It would be easier to find a smaller tract of land and maybe avoid too many traffic problems.
Yes the two site solution is looking much more likely. Probably the favorite site is to put a new school in MCMANUS FIELD thereby taking from TECH's athletic program. As you might imagine that is a personal problem for me. TECH just gets no respect. Honestly though I know NO place will make everybody happy and it does have to go somewhere. So it comes down to who can raise the most ruckus.
GAME ON!
