SHADOW DEPUTY STOPPED

So last night DR. LATHAM had this grand reorganization plan to strip SPED of a top administrator to create this NEW position, the DIRECTOR OF SUPPORT SERVICES to handle a multitude of NON-SPED duties. There is no question that the responsibilities and expectations of the public school system has expanded for non-SPED students but then again they have for SPED students as well. So robbing from PETER to pay PAUL might normally be business as usual but not this time. Sorry DR. LATHAM.

Seems like some LSC members saw this move as shifty and so she suffered a 7-0 setback sending her back to the drawing board or in this case flow chart, LSC member DONNA COPPLA pointed out that many of the duties that had previously been duties of the DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENTS would now be shifted to this proposed position leaving me to wonder what these people would now be doing and if this NEW position was actually the creation of a THIRD deputy and sliding it under the radar.

LSC member LORRAINE GATELY pointed out to the SPECIFIC law that LPS is kinda in violation of because they don't have an ADMINISTRATOR (there was a little debate on whether or not to call the position DIRECTOR) of SPED for the school year. We have been operating with an ACTING DIRECTOR. Sorry JESSICA but this has been a way to get around the DOCTORAL requirements of the position as the job description states. Because of the fact no one at the table last night knew what the requirements for the position currently are they decided to table posting the position until they see it next time and to see if they actually changed the requirement deleting the doctorate as MR. FORD asserted. Either way an EPIC battle is shaping up.

  1. How does the school committee not know what the requirements for the position are, especially since they are the ones who make such decisions? I believe think link contains the state requirements:

    1. JOHN FORD seemed to think they voted to waive the doctoral requirement at a previous meeting. If so, it may not be right but probably in their parameter.

  2. If teachers are required to have a Masters then administrators should be required to have doctorate.
