There is this NEW position you see that's been kicked around for a few meetings from one subcommittee to another. The position is for a COORDINATOR OF PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS.
The idea is for this person to do after these nonspecific, mythical grants from these private companies and foundations for grants and awards that could be given or awarded to the PUBLIC SCHOOL system. There could even be some solicitation of alumni. Although some schools like LVTI already have an active alumni association. On paper this position seems to be okay.
BUT......,
some suspicions have been raised about the way it has been created. The duties and responsibilities of the position have been vague. Of course that is in part due to the nature of the position. LSC member GALLO has been gung ho for this position has examples of monies gotten by neighboring school sytems.
The position is going to be for about $30,000 a year. Here is where the questionable nature of this position starts. The salary is supposed to be funded from the restructuring of the "RETIRING" grants director's $90,000 down to a re-named $60,000 position with her duties and responsibilities spread out among other people such that the monies coming in could be a little harder for outside people to track because no SINGLE person bears ultimate responsibility.
Also this SAVINGS from this proposed salary reduction is not a guaranteed thing. ATTORNEY MIHOS has to negotiate this new position with the ADMINISTRATOR'S UNION and we have no guarantee they will accept this lower salaried position. I think the negotiations are occuring TUESDAY. Rather than waiting to see if the lower salary is accepted thus providing the funding for this PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP position, there was a sense of urgency to SPEND the money before we have it.
OH, DON'T WORRY THEY SAID. WE'LL TIE THE SALARY OF THIS PRIVATE BEGGER TO THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OLD GRANTS DIRECTOR POSITION AND THIS NEW NEGOTIATED ONE, WHATEVER IT IS.
Fine, but do you really think they will hold to that if the UNION doesn't agree to less and do you think they will?
