WORKING FOR A SOLUTION

Lynn student leads local immigration movement

Just complaining about problems like the UNACCOMPANIED MINORS influx of 50+ kids does nothing. These kids will remain here so how do you want them to turn out? Positive programs like this one should be encouraged and touted. I see this as promoting responsibility for yourself.

The cards may be stacked against you but with a little help, you can "cut the deck".

  1. Sorry Stanley, but I do not agree with you on this one. I do not think this country should allow any illegal immigrants to attend public school. Donna pointed out just how expensive it is to educate one child from grades K through 12....about $100,000! There are countless US citizens who are unable to attend college in this country because they are not eligible for financial aid and cannot afford the costs...What about them?? There are countless US citizens who are unable to find work in this country...What about them?? Classroom sizes in the public schools around the country are becoming more and more overcrowded and it is having a negative impact on the learning process and environment. Billions of dollars are being spent on benefits and services for people who are in this country illegally! If you want to receive benefits from this country, such as an education, a job, a driver's license, etc. then you should follow the proper procedures and become a US citizen. I do not think our school committee or LPS should support this group.

  2. This GROUP is being led by a product of LPS, your $100,000 at work. It is easy to have your position because it is not wrong but that being said what are you prepared to do to solve it. The cost of deportation and incarceration are much more expensive. Education is by far cheaper, we have to LEARN our solutions.

  3. My solution is not deportation or incarceration...it's Naturalization. I strongly believe that if a person wants the same benefits that US citizens are entitled to and receive, then they should focus all their time and effort toward becoming a US citizen.

    1. I agree but what are you proposing we do with people already here? Since they came into the country illegally, do you feel they'll do the right thing and go back on their own and come back the legitimate way?

    1. Think about what you are saying. The children are aleady here. What are you going to do about them? I wholeheartedly agree we can not AFFORD to be the teacher to the world but part of the world is already here. We need solutions to the problem, not rhetoric about the problem.

    2. Again, these children are already receiving 13 years of education at no cost to them or their parents for that matter. Contrary to what they claim or believe, they do have choices. They can and should follow all the proper procedures and become legal. It is unfortunate that their parents put them in this situation by making the poor and illegal decision to enter this country illegally and it's just as unfortunate that the US government has accomodated and provided for them even though they are here illegally. In what other country could you not only be there illegally and still receive free benefits and services, such as an education, but that would allow you to actually stand before a city or state committee and proclaim that you are entitled to receive even more benefits and the same benefits as US citizens?? Are you kidding me!! What part of illegal are they and this country not getting?

  5. But that is all you have...rhetoric about all the problems, no solutions , no active participation that counts, very little fact, a lot of jumping to conclusions....and rhetoric...you said it very eloquently....
