KUDOS TO CLASSICAL

Classical attempts to close communications gap with parents
GREAT JOB, CLASSICAL PRINCIPAL CONSTANTINO! Teaching, that's what schools are supposed to do and teach that's what you are doing. Parents can't accept responsibility if they don't know what it is.

I have been getting HUGE numbers lately on a post on the school's responsibility to tell parents how to get involved!

  1. This was a great idea and I agree that schools should do whatever they can to try to get parents involved. Unfortunately, there are just too many parents that just don't bother. As the article stated, only about 55 parents showed up. Even if these were parents of 55 students, this # is unacceptable. I have seen it first hand at open houses when my husband and I have been the only parents present in a classroom, or two of just a handful. Typically, those parents who do show up are the ones whose children are doing fine in school, while the parents of those children doing poorly or even failing, don't show. Unfortunately, unless laws change that make a certain amount of parental involvement mandatory in the elementary and secondary public schools, lack of parental involement will always be an issue, particularly in the larger urban districts.

  2. They always have hundreds at FORD SCHOOL. Somebody should talk to DR. CRANE. FORD is in the most urban of urban districts where ENGLISH is a foreign language.

    1. I think the difference is the age of the children. In my opinion, many parents of older children tend to not be as involved in what or how their kids are doing in school or sadly, even out of school. But if Dr. Crane is that successful in getting parents involved at her school, I think it would be great for all of us to know how she does it. It definitely could not hurt!!
