NURSING NEWS

We, by that I mean THEY since my paychecks don’t come from CATHE’S CREW, have a new school nurse at LPS. Joining their team will be TERRY ARSENAULT, RN. Now mind you, TERRY’S degree is of the four year variety, a BSN.

  1. Which means what? Terry has 5 years to complete a Master's degree.

  2. I have no idea about the MASTER'S requirement. I am just glad she has a 4 yr. RN degree vs. a 2 yr. RN or even LPN. This is meant as a COMPLIMENT.

    1. An RN is an RN you only need the BSN if you prefer a management position and education. An LPN also has a degree and is licensed to practice. You don't see any uncertified people in the nursing positions do you? Just the teaching ones.

    2. Until fairly recently, you had to get a 4 year degree to become an RN. I think all school nurses should have a minimum of a 4 year degree. Also, you don't only need a BSN if you want a management position. Most hospitals and other employers require a BSN as a minimum qualification. It is difficult to find employment with just a 2 year RN degree and if you do, your pay will be reflective of your degree. Also, there will not be any advancement opportunities for you with just a 2 year degree.

  3. I know at my college back in the stone ages there were only 4 yr ones however because of the shortage they started a 2 yr one for floor nurses. Back then in WV, LPN's were a dying breed but then when I came up here, most of the nurses who worked for DMR were LPN'S, go figure.
