Who Ya Gonna Call?

When was the last time the Item did a story on Lynn Public Schools? Do you remember what it was about? I can't but admittedly I do have brain damage from an injury almost 30 years ago so I am not the sharpest blade in the drawer.

I won't waste your time asking about the Lynn Journal, The point of the matter is that this is a critical time and our education system needs all of the examination and discussion we can provide. Our children's future depends on it. Let's think of ourselves for a minute. Who's going to take care of us when we are old and dependant? Some of us are closer to that point than others.

  1. I have heard nothing this year about the 5 failing schools. I would like to hear how the schools are doing this year and what changes are being made to the way things were done in the past.

Of course a story about the modern technology used at the schools would be nice too!

  2. Things have to be brought to light (another word is exposed) before we can change them for the better

  3. Only articles I can remember are about crazy neighbors complaining about harmless gardens and fights over who owns parking lots.

  4. Maybe we should put the gardens in the parking lots

  5. Why are there only 5 failing schools? All of the elementary schools except Sisson, Tracey and Aborn failed to make AYP and have to give their students "Required School Choice": the students are entitled to attend a non-failing school. Same goes for our middle schools - they are all failing. Check it out here:

  7. Melissa, I think why the number I hear is 5 is because they have degrees designating just how far you have failed. When you get to Level IV, the flood gates open and you get this infusion of cash. Seems to me like an incentive to fail.

  8. Stanley - you might get some cash but there are stipulations to receiving it - can't imagine that anyone would want that much oversight and mandates - or be considered that bad of a school/teacher. If they don't perform or measure up, the state can seize control.
